I've been away from Flight Sim for quite a while but now want to get back up to speed.  I have FS2004 installed but wanted also to install FS2002 as there are some scenery items and aircraft for that version that I want to use.

However, when I try to install FS2002 I get the following message:

The application or DLL D:\DIRECTX\DSETUP.DLL is not a valid Windows image.  Please check this against your installation diskette.

I am pretty sure that the problem is not a corrupt CD because I have both my original Microsoft CDs and a more recent version now put out by Ubisoft, and they both have the same problem.

Can anybody help?

Sounds like a hardware forum question, I don't know the fix, but I think there are those here who do, so if you don't get any answers here, you might want to post this in the 'HARDWARE' forum.

I am running FS02 & FS04, never had any problems with either.  They are similar.

I'd be very interested in what this is about anyway.

I don't have any problems with running FS 2002, FS 2004, and CFS 2 on my Hard Drive, using Windows XP Pro SP2 and the latest Direct X Drivers.

What version of Windows are you using...(Vista?)...?

Some programs insist on working with "old'(er)" versions of Windows
(Some of my old Games will only work with my copy of Win 98SE and 3DFX Voodoo Graphics Cards!)... Grin...!

Well, thanks for taking the trouble to reply.  I've no idea what the problem is - all my other flightsim programs  - FS98, 2000, 2004, Golden Wings, CFS, CFS2, CFS3, IL2, are happy running under Windows XP professional, so why FS2002 should be the odd man out beats me.  Anyway,  I guess as you suggest I'll try the hardware forum.
