This has been covered before somewhere here, but whatever solution was given did not work for me.  I was not able to locate any posts just now.

Is there any way to turn off the gradual transition?

Thanks in advance.

I'm feeling a little dense here....but I have no idea what you're asking.   Can you be a bit more specific?  Is it something to do with the startup video?  Undecided

Sorry about the delay in replying, IE closed down right when I posted this & I thought the post didn't go thru & I forgot about it until just now.

On FS02 & FS04 there's what's called "gradual transition".  When turned on, in spot view, the view sort of zooms around the aircraft (or the aircraft zooms around in the view, same thing) before settling solidly into the chosen view.  So for ex., if you're viewing from the side and you change to rear view, the plane spins a bit before stopping at the rear view.  Or if you jiggle the hat switch, the plane zooms around a bit before stabilizing in the view.

It's really annoying, don't know what purpose it serves, but in FS02 & FS04, you can turn it off, there's an on/off check box for that.  So when turned off, when you change views, you get a stable view right away.

In CFS02, you cannot turn off the GT, there is no on/off switch.

Somewhere in the CFS posts a few years back, someone came up with a fix for this, just had to re-write a few things in some notepad file.  The fix did not work.

So if anybody has any ideas, or at least knows where that post is, do tell.

It's not anything to do with the start up video.

Thanks again.

I confess that I have never heard of this fix, though I've been around CFS2 for many years....which means ZIP, because I learn (and forget) something about it every day.

If anyone would know of an esoteric fix like that, it would definitely be Hagar.  Wink

If I knew the answer I would willingly tell you. Unfortunately I've forgotten most of what I once knew about CFS. Sounds like a CFS2.cfg tweak.

I've never had a problem with Spot view in CFS2 so I was not aware of the need for a fix. I have Gradual Transitions enabled in FS9.

Yes, it would be a CFS2.CFG setting, if anything.   I'll have to check it out.
It's a very esoteric and off-the-wall adjustment...Film at eleven.  Wink

You've been around this sim too long when you can freely admit that  you have forgotten just about as much about it as you remember.  LOL,  Undecided

Someone over at the Screenie Forum stated that we didn't have
ZOOM in CFS2, and I had to think for a second before realizing he did not know of what he spoke.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but Blue Devil does give instructions on how to settle down pan which although subtle at his chosen 300 is still noticeable in spot plane view.
But then subtle for one person is non-existent for another.  Undecided

Thanks all, you guys are the greatest.

Just got F6F-44's fix from Blue Devil, it's not what I saw sometime ago, but it seems to make sense so maybe it'll work.  We'll see, I'll try it soon, right now we've got a couple of possible hurricanes coming at us here in Miami, & I gotta get ready for hopefully nothing.

Hi Apex
I gave you a bum steer...changing pan rate doesn't affect spot plane view.
Getting back to your original question though, if it's possible...Blue Devil would be a good source.

Hi F6F-44, yeah, it didn't work, but thanks just the same, we all try to help out here.  I'll stick to FS02 & FS04, got 'em where I want 'em.

I'll keep Blue Devil in mind for someday.

I did stroll through the CFS2.CFG settings to see if there was an alternative available there, but without any success.  So I've drawn a blank.   Smiley Smiley

Apex,

Just ran across this topic....as there is no UI setting in CFS2 I never gave it much thought    Roll Eyes  but this prompted me to look a little further..

The user's 'Gradual Transition' setting in the MSFS sims is stored in the  .flt files, so that's where I started looking.  To make a long story short.......

Goto ...\<your CFS2 folder>\Situatio\.. folder.
Edit 2 files: 'defair.flt' and 'defgnd.flt'.
In each file find the [window.1] section.
Find the line 'SpotFastTransition=False'
Change the value to True and save.

You can set the initial view direction on the line..

SpotDirection=090.00

Accepts values 001.00 to 360.00.........360.00 for head on view.

Thanks for that, Dave.  I've looked at those files several times of over without much thought.  Grin

After all these years in CFS2, I'm still learning some new tricks. Shocked

I" am a little confuse the your last line thats reads like this You can set the initial view direction on the line..
SpotDirection=090.00          //values 1 to 360  360=head on

Do you mean you can change the line SpotDirection=090.00 to SpotDirection=090.00          //values 1 to 360  360=head on
or you mean to change it from SpotDirection=090.00 to SpotDirection= //values 1 to SpotDirection= 360  360=head on

Can you clarify this matter.

Thank you for openning this new direction of possibilies!

Sorry 'bout the confusion James. You enter any value from 1 to 360 after the = sign.

The '//values 1 to 360  360=head on' was just intended to be a 'comment'. I'll rephrase it in my original reply.

Examples:

SpotDirection=360.00
SpotDirection=180.00
