Having fixed the modem issue, I still have 4 issues in the Device Manager:

Ethernet Controller
Multimedia Video Controller
SM Bus Controller
Unknown Device

I know through CPU-Z that the chipset of my PC is Intel 945P Rev. A1.

Using this website http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-020683.htm , there is an Intel 945P Express Chipset.

Clicked Download, Selected Windows XP Home Edition, and directed to:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Filter_Results.aspx?strOSs=45&strTypes=all&Produ....

Nothing mentioned about the 945P. There is mention of Pentium 3 900 series in the archives:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Filter_Results.aspx?strOSs=45&strTypes=all&Produ....

Now what?

One question, did you install your Mb drivers?
Ethernet controler, Multimedia Video Controlor (which make me think its a onboard video) SM Bus Controler are drivers that you will find in your MB drivers
You need to find the ref. of your motherboard. Its easier like that. The unknow device might even be your firewire port, it could be the infrared receiver for your keyboard and mouse.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=1141251&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&dl...

You can find all for your pc in here, including drivers

P5LP-LE (Lithium) its your motherboard.
In that link you can find everything to solve your problem.
INSTAL your MB drivers all will be gone. Wink Smiley

as mentioned.. go to HP or where every your system is made from and get the drivers.. the Chipset drivers along with everything else you need will be located there

You should make it a habit to install chipset drivers before the video or other drivers go into the system

Thank you, Nick!

Update:
I have fixed the Ethernet Controller and Multimedia Video Controller through the Hardware Update Wizard.

Now all I have is the SM Bus Controller and the unknown device to deal with.

I was here yesterday. Originally couldn't find INFINST_AUTOL.EXE, but did a search:

Yes?

BINGO!!!

Thank you, Nick!

How do I make out the check, or do you prefer cash? Wink

Only problem left is the unknown device. I'm thinking printer, but it's not plugged in.

send 100 US Dollars to:

Boy, Did I Get Ripped Off
C/O The Walla Walla Vacuum Cleaner Company
Walla Walla, WA, 99362

(Please allow 4-6 weeks for us to leave the country)

and for unknown devices.. you still have drivers missing for something. You need to figure out what card or device you have that is missing drivers... Usually HP (or OEM manufacture) will list all the drivers needed for a system by model or serial code however if you added a device somwhere along the line you need to install the driver for that device yourself.

I will be very honest with you.
Instead of looking for programs to tell you what is missing, try to creat a checklist.
FORMAT
INSTAL XP
INSTAL DRIVERS FROM MOTHERBOARD.
INSTALL OTHER DEVICES YOU KNOW YOU HAVE
RESTART
SEE IF ALL IS OK
CREATE RESTORE POINT "JUST WITH THE FRESH INSTAL AND DRIVERS"
GO TO SIMVIATION FORUMS TO GIVE US SOMETHING TO DO WILE WE ARE FLYING OUR SIMS.

Good that you solve your problem Grin Smiley Wink Cool

I appreciate your input.

However, I want to point this out. I checked the Device Instance ID in Device Manager under Details: ACPI\AWY0001\2&DABA3FF&0

A Google search produced this:
http://blog.justinho.com/2007/06/28/PnPIDACPIAWY00012DABA3FF0IsShownAsUnknownDev...

My original Windows on my PC was Windows Media Center edition. No CDs came with the system. Even if I did have them, I hear it's a major pain to load. I now have Windows XP Home Edition on my system.

I'll hold short of trying the solution pending additional comments.

Chris I dont use OEM computers but I seem to recall a real annoyance with some of them which involved a ACPI driver not typically listed anywhere but at the website for the product.

In looking up your model at HP in the drivers section I saw this

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-43019-1...

Which is listed as

Description:   Microsoft "Away Mode" driver for French Canadian Media Center
Enhancements:   Resolves issue where “New Hardware Found” message appears when starting
Windows and no driver is found.

Operating System:

Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition

OK so you dont use Media center anymore however the device is still probably active in the BIOS or needs a driver to shut the nag up

I think it may be tied to the ViiV system or Intel Quick Resume Technology Driver as you posted above.. so I would say that link you posted would be the right course of action since the driver listed at HP is for the French version of XP Media Center

The generic ViiV driver is for WinXP MCE so see if you can kill it in the BIOS:

In the BIOS, select Power.
Select Intel QRTD.
Select disable.
Select Exit and save.

see if that works

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, Nick, but there's no Intel QRTD under Power in the BIOS Sad

While I would like this unknown device to shut the nag up, would it be better just to disable it? Just a thought.

Second thought: Maybe I should try the HP forums and tell them about it. While I'm at it, I can also address the problem of not being able to install my HP 2110 printer (says the software is already loaded).  Already used their HP AIO Scrubber program. Didn't work though.
