I have an Inspiron 8500 laptop and for about the last week it has been getting slower and slower. When I first turn it on it seems normal; it's not a particularly fast machine as it is. I use it mainly for work apps and internet. But after several minutes on, it suddenly starts to lag severely. I'm talking 10-15 seconds to do something as simple as switching from one app to another, like from Windows Explorer to internet explorer. I ran that CPU-Z program a while ago. With those two apps open it would hover around 20-25% CPU usage but then moving the mouse would make it spike to 100% and stay there. The thing that concerned me was that the CPU bus speed would change. It jumps from 99.2 to 100.2 mhz and so the CPU core speed goes down to 1190 and then up to 1202. This isn't normal, is it? I believe thing thing has the Intel speed step; the CPU is a 2.4 ghz P4 but usualy idles around 1.2 ghz. What could be causing these slow and unstable speeds?

Try this
1 Look for spyware
2 Virus
3 Use a registry cleaner
4 Try to remember if you instal anything before it became slow
5 Save your work and try to restore it to a day that everything was working ok

Hope it helped

Intel SpeedStep does that. But it is no reason for the slowdown.

Check for running proceses, virus, spyware, etc... Wink
