I was flying the CRJ700, and noticed something. Every version of MSFS has had its little, annoying bugs. I normally just work around them, but it's becoming aparent that FSX is gonna be it, for several more years... so I'm going to start fixing what I can.

First off, for us VC flyers.. the CRJ700 has a problem where you can't select the primary MFD function. The main MFD, where you select between; Map, HSI, ILS etc (I forget the exact options.. I always fly iy in HSI mode) can only be changed from the 2D panel (only the range knob works in the VC). Those knobs are modeled into the VC, so it cannot be fixed. BUT.. there is a problem with the display at the top of the MFD, regardless of the selected format.

It is supposed to display true airspeed (TAS), but if you notice, it shows the same as the airspeed indicator... which is true airspeed ONLY if you have it set that way in realism (and of course we all fly realistically, by INDICATED airspeed ) Wink

I went ahead and edited the MFD XML, so that it now reads TAS.  290kias at 25,000msl now shows 416ktas on the MFD  Cool

ANYway.. I'll upload the fixed CAB file after some testing, and if this idea is well-recieved.. I'll come up with something like,  "The Fix of the Month"  .. hopefully finding fixes for all the little bugs that I come across, or that forum members  report  Smiley

Oh cool - I've flown the Canadair perhaps twice since I got the sim; partially because I could never figure out where the mode switch for the MFD was. (Well - other reasons too. The CRJ is missing some very important items...like floats and a propeller... Grin ) Before I download the fix, I'm gonna follow your suggestion and see if I can fix it too. Smiley

Yeah.. I'm more fond of props made to spin by pistons (especially pistons arranged radially)..  but I do fly a jet now and then.

There are countless little bugs like this; always have been. I figure now is as good a time as any to squash them when I see them ..

I'm sure you know the ropes for fixing this bug. Extract all the files out of the gauge CAB.. edit the proper XML document.. and then recompress the CAB..  Actually...in FSX, you CAN just use the folder that you extraced everything into, but that's best for personal use. CABs are much smaller, and less easy to make a mess of.

First, many thanks for contributions to FS Brett.

I'll admit that I have no business in a "tube" (Carenado's Cessna 182 Skylane RG is more than a hand full for me), but I have had an interest in learning glass panels lately though (default Skyhawk w G1000 and the Eaglesoft Cirrus SR 20 w Avidyne Entegra).

This may or may not be a tall order, but, I have noticed that there is no way to dim the panel for night "flights" on the default Garmin G1000. According to Max Tresscott's "G1000 w WAAS Glass Cockpit Handbook" (R) and Sporty's "What You Should Know" series "Garmin G1000 Checkout" (R) package, you need to use the "menu" button and "FMS" knob to scroll through to a settings page to adjust the brightness. The use of the "menu" button doesn't seem to be modeled as well as other "pages'" on the G1000 in FS, which is understandable, but...

In addition, there does not seem to be a key command in the FSX/Settings/Control page to control the brightness either (none that I've found anyway). Although I seem to favor the Garmin G1000 for it's overall abilities over the Avidyne Entegra - even though, both are great systems, the Entegra's ability to dim the panel makes it a "no brainer" for night "flights".

So, if you, or anyone else is "in the mood", that would be a nice bug to have addressed. Either way, many thanks again! Smiley

Consider that added to the list.  Maybe we'll attract the attention of an accomplished gauge programmer..  My gut feeling is that the dimming can be done..
