I downloaded the file by HerbieG B-17g Ack-Ack Annie. This is from the readme It says  -Guns flashes, smoke and cartridges.You can experiment changing the triggers.I use the strobe (O) key, adapted to the trigger of my joystick. I have tried this and nothing happened. I evened moved all the gauages where they need to be. So do I need any extra effects in order for this to work.

Check the aircraft.cfg file.  in the [smokesystem] section there would have to be entries that end with something like "fx_guns" (for example).  Also, there would have to be a coresponding "fx_guns" effect file in your Effects folder.

I just checked this out. Those effects files appear to be missing.

That solves that mystery.  Bearing in mind, that "fx_guns" in my example was a made up "for example".  Usualy, it's "FX_Wing_guns".

Downloaded, and sure enough:

//------------------Guns-----------uses  strobe
light.14=2,   17.50,   0.00,   -4.75,  fx_Wing_Guns//chin
light.15=2,   -1.75,   0.00,   4.85, fx_wing_guns_rear//top
light.16=2,   -52.00,   0.00,   0.15, fx_wing_guns_rear//tail
light.17=2,   -22.00,   0.00,   -4.75, fx_wing_guns_rear//ventral

But as far as I can see, the "Fx_wing_guns_rear" was not included in the download (and I've never seen a "rear" version of the "wing guns" effect).
