I thought about going down to Dover but decided against it.

Bravo!! I wonder if this is the same guy who was less successful a while back (crashed it just offshore, and miraculously survived unharmed).

The one I remember was a woman. Gloria Pullen in 1989. Louis Beriot's grandson also made a failed attempt in 1998. He didn't get very far. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/139583.stm

Edmond Salis* is the son of Jean Salis who runs the museum at La Ferte Alais. It includes many rare aircraft in airworthy condition.  http://www.ajbs.fr/index-uk.php

Mikael Carlson has actually done this before, 10 years ago. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/moslive/article-1200178/Not-easy-jet-Recreating-...

*PS. According to this Edmond's grandfather Jean-Baptiste crossed the Channel in the same aircraft in 1955. http://www.ajbs.fr/musee-uk.php
