I realize this question is kinda broad but, what would cause scenery (Air Mountain Ranch KMNT) to dissapear from 'Select Location' all of a sudden, yet still show up physically, on the map, and GPS? Also, my Sopwith Camel has disappeared from the original FS9 install in 'Select Aircraft', yet it is still there in Windows Explorer. But it still shows up in the duplicate install. All the Camel files are exatly the same in both installs. There have been no changes except for repainting the Camel, no new scenery, nothing. I just defragged this morning and there is no change since. There are some very weird things going on here. Undecided

I just checked the KMNT scenery out. Is it activated in the Scenery Library?

The Camel is not an FS9 default aircraft. Check out sound.cfg in the Sound folder. It could be aliased to an aircraft you've removed. That would explain it.

Yes, KMNT is activated. I have not removed any aircraft or scenery or made any other changes of any kind. The only thing I've done since last flying the Camel or seeing KMNT listed, is fly, take a few screen shots, and work on repaints. And I have done most of my flying in the new install, this is in the original install. I will check the sound.cfg. Thanks.

Problem solved. Aircraft.cfg and .air files were missing, as well as all the files in the Snoopy texture. Have no idea how it happened. Copied files from duplicate install and Camel is back.
Part 2 solved too. KMNT was not the only one failing to show up in 'Select Location'. I unchecked the box by each one, shut FS9 down, went back and checked the box again and shut down. When I booted it up this time, they showed up. Cause unknown, but problems solved. Thanks.

patchz,

Re: Part 2-airports missing from the select list.

This can happen when multiple installs of FS do not have the same (Afcad) airports installed.

Though each FS install has it's own scenery.cfg file, they share a set of 'facility index' files (....\<USER>\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9\Facilities\*.IDX). These files are updated only when the scenery.cfg file is updated.

The select airport list is populated from these .idx files. If the scenery.cfg was last updated from the sim that doesn't have the airports, they will not show in the select list of the sim that does until updated from that sim.

If you have to refresh the scenery.cfg, it is not necessary to uncheck and recheck each one, nor to restart the sim twice. Just uncheck and recheck any item (to trigger the red 'You've made changes.....' message), click OK and restart the sim.

Thanks Dave. That will save me a step, as I'm sure there are others I have not noticed.  Smiley
Do you think this will happen every time I change areas in VOZ?
I eventually hope to go back to just one install, if everything I want to keep is compatible with VOZ. I already found out I can use just the clouds from Silver Wings with no problems. Which is great, because Silver Wings has more variety than VOZ. I also prefer the water I have in my original install over VOZ. But the trees and ground textures in VOZ are awesome. So much work, so little time.  Roll Eyes Grin
