Hi all,

I recently got a new computer, which should run FSX reasonably well

Core i7 940
Asus P6T6 WS Revolution
Corsair 1000W PSu
Noctua NH-12UP cooler
Corsair 6 GB, 1600MHz DDR3
GTX 285
2x 1 TB harddrive, 7200 rpm, 32bit cache (decided against a velociraptor, as my FSX installation is over 250GB)
Windows 7 RC, 64bit

However, at the moment I am having the impression my old rig (core2duo 6850, 8800GT with 1 GB, 2GB Ram DDR 800, Windows XP 32) used to handle fsx better than the new one.
I have a lot of issues with low framerates (jumping between 5 and 50) at medium to high settings and when panning around I am seing spikes going up from the autogen, which could indicate out of memory errors (especialy with photoscenery + autogen)

What I have tried so far is:
- reinstalled FSX making sure to start it up after installation of very addon
- set up nhancer as suggested here by Nick http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=29041. This helped a little
- set buffersize pool to 400000000. This helped a little
- did a test overclock to 3.5 GHZ. This improved FPS slightly, but also increased the "out of memory spikes", so I turned it back to standard.

As I am running FSX on Windows 7 64, I am not sure if I should try changeing Userva
I haven't tried the external FPS limiter as I am running a lot of photoscenery

I am not the tweaking crack, so I would appreciate, if you have any ideas.

Thanks very much!
Kind regards
Manuel

I would remove the bufferpool tweek and see what happens. Do you have your FPS locked or set to unlimited? If unlimited, i7's dont like that so you will need to lock it at 28-30FPS. Seeing you said you followed Nicks tune up, Im not sure that that will work fo windows 7. I would use xp 64 bit if you can or Vista.

Jim!

Where have you been? I'm having some issues I wanted to talk to you about. Do you have any time to talk?

Steve

I did some more testing.

With standard scenery I have no issues at all (fps never drop below 50 with most sliders at max). The issue only seems to arise with addon sceneries like VFR Germany or FTX.

It seems that the slider settings only have little impact on my fps. If at all it seems that high settings run better than low ones. In DX10 mode it seems to run significantly better than in DX9 mode.

I guess with some more fiddeling around my FSX settings I will get to a point where I have sufficient performance. However, there always seem to be areas, (e.g. Kiel in VRF Germany or Sydney in FTX) where my FPS always drop below 20, no matter what settings I am using.

My computer components are almost identical to yours. I also have just about every major add-on scenery installed. What you are experiencing is normal. There will be areas where your FPS drop below 20....this is just how it is. The areas I have FPS problems are in VFR London and Aerosofts Manhattan..these areas give me 6 to 10 FPS with my comp overclocked to 3.5.

From my experience with FSX over the last year or so is that you are going to have performance issues with some areas compared to others. You just have to find that happy median.
