Hi all, just had the mis fortune of a major HHD crash and have susequently had to re install all of my FS2004 programs.

The problem i have is that i cant remember in what order!!!

I obviously started with a fresh install of FS9 plus update.
Then i added FS Global 2008 then FS Scene Vol 1.

Then the problem started. I then added all of my British Airports volumes 1 to 5 bu when you start FS9, the add on airports still are in default state as if they were never installed.

Ok the machine is running Vista 64bit Home Premium and worked fine before the crash.

Does the software that i have added need to be added in a certain order??????

Hope you can help with this one.

Many thanks
Mark Huh

If I were you, I'd make sure that all the airports were added correctly and are at the top of the addon scenery list, as well as checked.

When i installed the Airports, they went into a default folder within the root of Fs9 and not into the add on scenery file.

Could this be the problem?

I'm not sure, since I've never used that scenery.  If it was an installer package, I would assume that is where the designers intended them to go.  If it isn't an installer, I would put them in their own folders inside of the Addon Scenery folder.

EDIT:

Now that I think about it, that most certainly is the issue.  Go ahead and try putting them in their own folders as I said above.

I always put ALL my add-on scenery Folders in the main "Add-On-Scenery" Folder, and select, and Add them from there, via the Scenery Library...

..no problems then..Wink...!

...I've never tried putting selected Scenery Folders into a separate "named" Folder within FS 2004, and selecting and adding them from there...would it work? Roll Eyes... Roll Eyes...!

As I point out in my Scenery Clinics, scenery can be installed anywhere on your PC  - providing it's correctly configured & you know where to find it.

I suspect that the British Airports scenery marko is having problems with is payware & comes with an auto-installer. In my limited experience with payware this will be installed to wherever the designer intended it to go & the local path cannot be changed. Your Scenery.cfg will be automatically updated during the install process if necessary. I'm guessing that the problem is with Vista which might not allow this to be done. I suggest checking your Scenery.cfg to see if it's been updated. If not you might have to activate the scenery manually via the Scenery Library.

PS. It seems my guess might be correct. You might like to check this out. http://www.justflight.com/VistaInstallationHints.asp

I have no experience with Vista myself & this is only a suggestion. I think it might be an idea to start again before you run into more problems. Uninstall FS9 & do a Custom Install to a different location outside the Program Files directory.

Well adding the scenery and texture files seperatly into the add on scenery folder done the trick.

This was a strange problem as i never had to do this before. All of my add ons are all pay ware with disc and was normally just a case of put the disc in and viola, it was done!

The sim is still running on the same Vista 64 platform.

Now, i have not installed any of my add on aircraft as yet. The first will be my trusty PMDG 737 800/900. Should i expect any probs by self installing?

Regards
Mark

Glad you fixed it anyway. Perhaps you need to change some security settings.

Only way to find out is to try it.
