I have a couple of their planes, very nice and realistic I think.
Reading the manuals is a MUST!!
You will have a much more rewarding experience in the long run.

I like to drop mine from 60,000 feet in a cold and dark config, and see if I can get it started and pull out of the fall before I slam into the ground.
I'll make it someday.
(I can do it with the Piaggio P-808)

You get quick at remembering and hitting those buttons when the ground is coming up quick.

Let me see if I understand the MD-11 well enough....
1) APU on, then
2) Start engines 1 & 3.
Is that all?

If you want to cheat yes.
Do it, and run through the check list step by step. Although the Md-11 may get going a bit quicker than the 747.

Well.... I wouldn't call it cheating.... it's not like you could even do the IRSinitilization when you're falling from FL600, right? Don't tell me you'd rather program in your FMC the weights, etc. rather than save the plane from hitting the ground

Well that's the challenge isn't it.
Like I said, I haven't done it with one of the heavies yet.
But someday I'll get quick enough.
It's more of an exercise, how fast can I get it done. Falling just provides added motivation.
