I'm coming back to FSX after 7 months of Fs2004.  I will keep 2004 Installed but if I get poor performance I will uninstall it.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

That just came to mind... don't know why  Wink

Did you get a new computer or something?  Huh

Don't worry guys Im keeping it installed!  I'm just using 2004 because, to be honest, Fsx runs actually better than my 2004 did.  Don't ask me how but it does! Shocked

ummm.. I have no tweaks, hard nor soft...  FSX runs wonderfully, and actually locks, and/or crashes, less often than FS9 did   Tongue

While my FS9 does run better than my FSX, my FSX does run WAY better than it did before.

I think adding non-FSX native addons is what causes 70% of all users problems with FSX.

The other 30% just don't have the correct hardware. Wink

So far, I've installed ONLY FSX native planes & scenery, and I still hold a nice solid 20FPS of smooth stutter free performance on Med-low settings.   And I still have Autogen as far as the eye can see. Wink All of this on outdated AMD dual core/ATI 512mb/2Gb ram system.

Avoid putting FS9 addons into FSX, and it should stay running good. Wink

Just for reference.. to keep things in perspective.. My SECOND FSX, purpose-built computer.. that cost around $2200 for a ground up, start with nothing build (including $140 for Vista). can now be had for.. welllll... you do the math on the key components (m-board, CPU, v-card, RAM)

                                       THEN           NOW
Gigabyte P45 M-board ....  $250            $90

Q9550 ........................... $350             $220

Gf8800GTS-512(g92)......  $340             $110

4GB of OCZ Platinum.....   $200             $100

--------------------------------------------------------

                                    $1,140           $520

Granted.. these are no longer state of the art components.. but that combo WILL run FSX  VERY well..

FIVE-HUNDRED AN TWENTY DOLLARS, plus a case, P/S, drives and O/S..

Complaining that FSX hardware is too expensive, is no longer allowed  Tongue

That's over $100 less than I paid for the one I built a year ago. Embarrassed

I'm most of the way saved up for my new i7 though. Cool Wink

No worries... no matter what you buy, and when you buy it.. it will seem overpriced within months  Cheesy  that's just the computer world.

Remember.. that was my SECOND build..  to have built that computer when those parts first hit the market, would have been $3-4,000  Shocked

So I did a "stop-gap", poorly advised built in the interem, too  Embarrassed

By the time you get that i7 built, it will be "old".. that's just how it goes, unless you're willing/able to fork out a few thousand, every year..  Angry

The trick is to time your builds better (that's why I make these posts)..

I remember back to FS9.. the amount of money I wasted, chasing piece-meal upgrades, and poorly-timed builds, makes me sad..lol

Jus a "for example".... (this is from memory)

I was running FS9 "ok" on a AMD2500 / ATI-ti4800..

I shot the wad on an AMD3000-64 / ATI 9800pro256... I'm talking a LOT of money.. and the performance icrease was minimal

Angry

I didn't have FS9 running FULL out (full sliders, gobs of AI, to the point where O'hare was a parking lot), until I got an AMD3700, overclocked it, and hadd a 7800GTS v-card... and even with that .. it would lag a bit, here and there. That was my THIRD try at an FS9 rig !

I've been a little more wise, building for FSX, but I've still spent money I didn't need to.
