All of a sudden the computer BSOD.

I tried to boot up again and get

Windows could not start because it is missing or currupt

\windows\system32\config\system

I am booting windows to the Recovery Console now to try to fix things the old fashioned way.

Microsoft's method apparently does not work for me as I get "access denied" as I try to copy the files.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545

I use:
chkdsk /p
fixboot

but it gets me to "The target partition is D:" " Are you sure you want to write a new bootsector D:?

I try a system recovery but I get an Access denied.
Tried this link: http://www.myfixes.com/article/sysres/src1.htm
does not fix anything.

What do I do?

Well the machine worked for a couple days than it started going down hill again.

As it starts up I get NTDLR missing and a Currupt or Missing Hive error, and session5_initialization_failure.

I have no idea what is wrong and not idea how to fix what is wrong. This is the time where I wished I had imaged my drive. Cry

Somehow the C: drive got renamed as the D: so everything is screwed up in the system. The techs and I both agree that I should recover what I want from the C: and reformat C:.

This is just a huge inconvenience. Not a big problem because I won't be loosing any data just have to reset everything back to the way it was.

Whenever I get the BSOD stating "\windows\system32\config\system-missing or corrupt" I get out my XP install disc, boot from it and via the command prompt copy the file from the disc to the hard drive then reboot and you should be all set.

If I recall it should be typed something like this (been awhile since I needed to do it)

C:\ COPY windows\system32\config\system

I was going to say.. there is no reg fix tool that will fix this problem

Its either a defective hard drive, a virus that has damaged the registry or a computer that is improperly overclocked or has defective memory

Glad you got it sorted

Yep now it's just a waiting game and an inconvenience to put back everything to where it was.
