I don't really know, but it wouldn't hurt to try.  Just don't remove anything from your current HDD without backing up first.  Some programs won't like not being located near Windows.  They get a little neurotic unless they're given sunshine 24/7. Wink

I do not think this will work because during your original installation, the registry was updated with where your FS is installed.  So, even though you might open FS on the external drive, all other opens will occur based on the registry entries, i.e. on the c: drive.

You can do a second install on the external drive but you must first rename your C:\ based FS FS9.exe.

You can put a Clean install of FS on an External HDD (which is what I would suggest you do.) { back up your AIRCRAFT, EFFECTS, GAUGES, ADDON SCENERY, FS9/SCENERY FOLDER, MODULES  -- TO THE DESKTOP --------- uninstall FS9.1 if you have it, THEN FS9 from your C:\ ............ then REINSTALL IT to your EXTERNAL " X: " drive.   Once it is reinstalled to your X: drive, then put your saved AIRCRAFT, EFFECTS, GAUGES, ADDON SCENERY, FS9/SCENERY FOLDER, MODULES  back into your FS9 folder to put it back to the way that it was.

OR

Yes you can COPY / PASTE it from your C:/ to the X:/ but  you will have to go through REGEDIT and change the registry values for it to work properly (including FSPASSENGERS, FSNAV, ANY OTHER ADDON PROGRAMS THAT RUN WITH FS..... AND QUITE POSSIBLY ADDON CRAFT)...... to which..  IF YOU MESS UP::

1) your computer might crash and become unrecoverable

2) your FS will not recognize and you will have to reinstall it anyways.

so, might as well do the first choice just to be safe!!!!
