SimV online flight to occur sometime in the future, possibly tomorrow (Monday) at 3pm US eastern. I'll post a confirmation of this time a couple hours prior to the event if that is when I decide to do it.

ROUTE:

Hamilton/Toronto Area (Depart from either Hamilton, Pearson Intl, City Centre, Downsview, or Buttonville)

TO

Buffalo-Niagara  Intl. (KBUF)

TO

Cleveland-Hopkins Intl. (KCLE)

AIRCRAFT: Fast turboprop or non-military jet.

WEATHER: Real-world conditions

SIM: FS2004/FSX (I'll be on 2004)

FS TIME: Your choice. I'll be setting mine to real world current time.

COMMS: Chat box and/or Teamspeak

SUGGESTED SCENERY: Search the various libraries, but there are at least FS2004 compatible airports for all of the Toronto Area, Buffalo, and Hopkins Intl.

SUGGESTED AIRCRAFT: Quite a lot to choose from, so just use whatever is appropriate.

NOTES: The Buffalo arrival will be a full stop landing, where we will reorganize and depart together for Cleveland.
Cruising altitude will be your choice of anything from 16,000 feet on up for the BUF - CLE leg.
No online ATC services will be provided.

Before I get my Maps out, Sean... Wink....

What is the total distance of the flight*, to determine a suitable GA Prop Aircraft to complete the journey in a reasonable time?...(Before Bed-Time!... Wink...)

The departure Time will be between 8:30 PM and 9:00 PM BST, (After the Chile Tour)?

Paul...G-BPLF...FS 2004...FS Nav... Cool...!

I hope we don't experience/suffer the usual FLAT scenery of the Eastern Seaboard!... Roll Eyes... Grin... Grin...!

* ...EDIT: Total journey Distance = 136 Miles.

It looks as though my Default Beech Baron 58 (turbocharged) should fit the bill nicely!...Wink...!

If you're flying only a hundred feet off of the ground, nothing will seem very flat anymore. Wink Grin

I'll be there, not sure which era of flight yet, depends on what everyone else is flying. Cheesy Wink

Thanks for covering the navs and distances Paul. You are correct, it will occur directly after the Chile tour.

Not sure what I will be flying yet.

Well I don't know...

I may branch out from being my usual "Captain Sensible" self... Cool....

.....and.....as its a fairly long trip, 136 Miles, I may wheel out my brand new, shiny, black, angry-looking, (Sim Shed) RAF Tucano.... Cool...

It can be a speedy beast for medium distance Hops, but, as usual,  the Turbine "Lag" takes some getting used to, compared to my usual gentle Piston Props!... Shocked...!

I find the in-built default Tucano Autopilot Radio digits difficult to read without my Glasses perched on my nose, so I have installed my trusty (resizeable) Bendix-King full Radio Stack in my Cockpit, which gives me access to the Transponder, and NDB Radio Beacon frequencies, as well as the VOR frequncies...

...which is delightful!... Kiss...!

The default Bendix-King full Radio Stack is ideal for Radio communication, and Radio navigation, when installed in any Aircraft...and ideal for FS Nav users!....Wink...!

So...there you go, Chums...Choices...Beech Baron 58...or a very speedy Tucano, with a lazy Turbine Engine...with a new Bendix-King Radio Stack!....Roll Eyes...!

Will see on the day of the flight... Wink..!

Paul...G-BPLF....FS 2004...and being silly in a Tucano...as I do!... Grin...!

..just completed the flight in my Tucano, cruising at >300 Knots at an altitude of 3,000 > 5,000 feet ASL, navigating from VOR to VOR, and by the cringe, the scenery is unexciting!.....and....FLAT!.... Shocked...!

I can see why I stick to the Western Pacific Seaboard for the best scenery tours!... Grin...!

Its the sort of journey best suited for Commercial Passenger Jet Enthusiasts flying at high altitude, rather than low altitude Tourists in GA Piston Props...Wink... Grin...!

As a regular U.S. Flight Sim Tourist I often wonder if the Eastern Seaboard, (and Central Region), is really as flat and featureless as it appears in the Sim?..... Shocked....?

You're flying too high Paul, your undercarriage should be scraping the roof tops. Wink

No it isn't. When I flew over this region in a 737 in the real world, it didn't look flat and featurless at all, and that was at 25k ft.  Wink

There are numerous large hills and valleys where I live that are not represented well in Stock FS, (FS9 or FSX)
The SRTM mesh here, helped a  lot, but it still appears flatter in game than it is in real life. Sad

Tomorrow's the day. Hopefully this will be a nice, lakeside flight. I'm still not sure what I will use.

If you're going by that map, you're missing most of the best bits. Wink Grin

Alaska doesn't look very interesting at all there, neither does the Appalachian range. Undecided Both are very nice country that look (in real life) much as the area you fly around in California. FS has really done my side of the country little justice in the terrain.

In between the Mississippi & the Rockies is EXTREMELY flat & boring I think, but from the Miss to the Atlantic is nice and hilly rolling country up to the Appalachians, and then it gets to be a little flatter as it hits the coast.

I stayed well clear of any marauding Oreganos.... Shocked...., although the Bears were no problem!... Smiley...!

I set up a couple of my own Bases close to some Lakes, for some Boating and Fishing.., Cool...!

Paul...G-BPLF..FS 2004...and a Canadian Canoe... Cool...!
