WINNERS, WINNERS, WINNERS

Judge SeanTK says :

Firemonte007!!

...

"I really enjoyed this image. Beyond having an interesting perspective, it has some very

nice finer elements. Everything from the color combination, with a bright red plane on a

stark white backdrop, to the subtle but appropriate weather elements in the background

make this a nicely balanced image in my opinion. This aircraft is clearly exploring the

"Final Frontier" and seems to be going into the unknown from the scene in this shot. The

lighting, shadows, weather, and plane details are all excellent and expertly put

together, but the fact that this image portrays a unique and possibly dangerous

adventure somewhere so well really grabbed my attention."

CONGRATULATIONS Firemonte007!!!!

"Subzero takes a very well deserved second place."

...

"A strong contender for first place. An iconic aircraft in a perfect setting for it,

along with very nice looking waterfront town and great sky and weather make this a

competitive shot in any competition. There is a lot to see in this shot, from the moon

peaking through the clouds above to the numerous surface vessels tucked snugly into

their port. Great shot!"

Third place is for Barbr !

...

"Amazing lighting on this one. A Twotter is again present with its proper equipment, and

looks to be enjoying itself over a very well lit and detailed mountain range. Nice angle

on this one too! Definitely a strong competitor in this competition."

To the others:

"I didn't see as many entries as I had hoped to see, but it was hard enough to narrow it

down from the selection provided. It was interesting to see how people interpreted this

contest, and I did not see a shot that I did not like. Great effort folks!""

Nice work on a great comp!

Firemonte007 is on the bench next week! Can't wait to see what he comes up with for a

theme.
A big congratulations to the other finalists, and great job to all that entered. Smiley

Cheers

ShaneG

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/lc-130.htm

The LC-130 is the largest aircraft to be fitted with retractable ski–wheels. The main skis are 20 ft (5.1 m) long and 5.5 ft (1.7 m) wide. The nose ski is 10 ft (3 m) long and 5.5 ft (1.7 m) wide. The complete ski set weighs 2.8 tons (2.5 tonne). With full bearing in soft snow, the contact pressure is about 4 lbf/in.2 (28 kPa). The original ski installation was first test-flown in 1957 and completed in 1958; twelve modified aircraft were delivered to the USAF in the first order. In its present form the C-130 ski–wheel modification is not a simple retrofit but rather a major modification of the gear and airframe. For aircraft bigger and faster than the C-130, ski modification seems unattractive and probably prohibitively expensive.

I thought they were called skids not skis. I may be wrong though.

I've heard both terms,so I don't know.  I guess It depends on your definition of a "ski"

Ok, crap....I should have specified snow equipment in regard to "skis" like the image of the helicopter in my example shot. If you notice, it has snow pads under the skids. Note: I have never heard the use of the term "skis" to refer to "skids" but that's beyond contention at this point.

I guess I'll let those shots qualify, but now you know!  Wink

This is one of those rare moments where I'm hoping the judge's knowledge of aircraft is fairly extensive enough to compensate for my eclectic artistic flair. Grin Wink

I really wanted to think outside the box, and golly, they sure looked like skis for rear undercarriage. Undecided Grin Wink
