G'day guys,

Just a quick question - I'm going nuts adjusting the traffic for loads of countries, downloading AI aircraft and printing AIPs!  Hours and hours of work!

The thought just hit me though - what if my 4th disc scratches and FS2K4 becomes useless?  Does MS allow a backup to be made?  Should I buy another copy of FS2K4 while I still can?

Thanks guys
Stew

I have a copy of FS, but I keep it safely inside both it's original box, and the sleeves it came in.  I downloaded the No CD crack for FS9, and use that instead of keeping the disk out where it can get damaged.

If I were you, I would do the same!

Although, a search of both this site and Flightsim.com has revealed that it isn't attainable at either one.  I'm fairly sure I got a copy from AVSim.  Unfortunately, it's still down. Sad

SimV does not advocate piracy of any kind. What you are talking about is considered piracy. Getting the "No CD Patch" is illegal.

Yes, guys, I wasn't keen on doing anything illegal/pirating...

Was wondering if there was a legit way to do it...

I'll see if FS2K4 can still be bought in Aus Wink

Roll Eyes

If you purchased a copy legally, and use the file for protection of your investment, its not piracy.

A little common sense tells us that.

Sorry guys - I didn't want to start an argument over the legality/illegality of things...just wanted to keep flying the friendly skies for as long as possible!

I found a copy for AUD$50 - so will keep that as my 'backup' copy! Wink

Cheers

In Microsoft's eyes, you are damaging THEIR creation, and not running it the way THEY intended it to run.  You are rewriting THEIR codes to suit your needs. Therefore, be forewarned, there is a small chance that you could incure punitive damages charges up to Piracy / Theft; IRREGARDLESS of if you legally bought your FS9 at Walmart, BestBuy, or any other mom and pop computer store.   If you have the crack, do not tell anyone where, or if you have it.

as to a backup copy, you might want to contact MICROSOFT (though i doubt you will get anyone with the round of layoffs they had) and ask them what you or they could do about getting you an extra 4th disk at a discounted rate.

you can COPY disks 1-3, but Disk 4 (the one you NEED to run the simulator) is Copy Protected from Microsoft.  so in short, NO, you can not burn your own copy of Disk 4.  I already tried -- with various programs.

The reason WHY it is copy protected, is to stop people from being able to copy all 4 disks, then hand them out to their friends irregardless of if that is / was / could be your intentions.   ------ Why do people put locks on their door to their houses?? To keep people from being able to get in.  Locks (Copy Protections) are in places for HONEST people. If someone truely wants to get to information / into your home, Locks / copy protections are not going to stop people.
