I seem to be having some problems making some taxiway signs using SBuilderFS9 ( http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/fsdevdownloads.php# >> Scenery Design / Tools / SBuilder for FS2004 ----- its near the bottom of that list in the left hand pane ) {it is the updated version which includes SBuilder 205, revison6, SCASM 2.96, and the "Object pack for SBuilder 2.05". by Luis Sá and Luis Féliz-Tirado }

ok.  I installed it, and to tell the truth, i have no clue how to even run the program or do anything in it.  After I registered the program, i read a little bit and the HELP file said something about seeing a red + "crosshair" resembling where youre plane is and such, but i do not see the
+
anywhere on the screen.

If anyone that knows how to use this progam very well would not mind, could / would you please help me out with this as Taxi Signs are the last thing I need to do for my airport so that I can get it packaged up and uploaded.  Without the signs, I am affraid that if I upload it, and someone downloads it, then they *MUST* use Follow Progressive Taxi which is not realistic at all.

Thanks

Hi

With FS running, create a new project then select "Show Aircraft" from the View option, then the red crosshair should appear on the blank screen & everything can be built from there. Upon checking the project's coordinates (at bottom of screen) it should correspond to the airport's location. To create the signs, while in slew mode and with SBuilder project open, move to where the sign is to be placed then switch to SBuilder and click the OBJ button at top. Click on where the red crosshairs are on the SBuilder window then click the "Taxiway Sign" button. Next, click on the >>> button and then click on "MAKE". Click OK and if the object needs to be relabeled or oriented differently, click/right click  on the small yellow square now on the SBuilder screen to reopen the OBJ window (orientation is HEADING). It's not a 5-min project but if broken down into sections, e.g., do one runway this afternoon and the other tomorrow, it should go smoothly.

NOTE: After installing, I recall having prior problems saving projects in SBuilder due to lack of a windows .ocx file (cannot remember which one), if such a message comes up then simply look for that file online, download & install and everything will work as expected.

thank CAFedm.  I will look into everything that you just said.    I actually have a lot of Taxiways that I am going to end up relabeling in AFCAD first.... but once i do that 5 min job, then hopefully i can get on to the taxiway signs.

my concern was, i thought that SBuilder would show something like the AFCAD so that you could at least see where you are placing things.  ....... i guess it would if i was designing EVERYTHING directly in Sbuilder, but since im working on something that has already been built it wont.

okay CAFedm, 2 new problems.

1) when i save my work, it saves as a .sbc file in target:
E:/Microsoft Games/FS Supporting Programs/Scenery Design Tools/SbuilderFS9/Tools/Bmps/KDVI Taxi Test

KDVI Taxi Test being the actual file.     to see my TEST signs in FS2004, do i need to move this to my KDVI Scenery file inside FS9/Addon Scenery/KDVI Scenery/scenery ????

2) i start FS9 and slew to where I want a Taxiway Sign.  Open SBuilder > Open > KDVI Taxi Test     ..... "OBJ" click on the
+
> Right click and choose Properties > Taxiway sign >>>

i make my little sign and it puts a green box in the big empty white box in Sbuilder.    NOW!!! when i go back to FS and slew/move to a new point, the
+
moved in the oposite direction from the way i moved in SIM.    is that going to matter when i try to put the sign in the sim??? Is the sign going to be in the wrong location????

right now, at this very second, all that i want to try to do is get 1 thing to show up in the sim so that i can get a baseline of how it needs to be done for the other 75 things that i need to do.  Get what im saying?? if i can get 1 to show, then i know i can follow those steps again to get more to show.

1) The Save or Save As  save an .sbp file which is your project file. This is needed so you can reopen the project. You should save the project file regularly so that project data is not lost due to error or misfortune. To save the .bgl (scenery) files use File>Bgl comlipation or the BGL button on the right end of the tool bar. The .bgl is the file you move to the sim.

2)Make sure your aircraft is north oriented in the sim. Enter slew mode and press the Space bar to north orient your aircraft. The object will be placed at the coordinate position regardless of how you get there, it's just easier if your aircraft is north oriented the same as the SBuilder window.

From your initial post....

If you haven't done so, I suggest you get intimate with the SBuilder Help document. It should be your close companion while you're learning.   Wink

thanks dave. While i was outside pondering over a few things, i thought about that..... why is it that if i move left in-sim, i move right in Sbuilder??? ummmm, im looking south; and sbuilder is looking north. lol duh  Roll Eyes

Now that i looked at 1 or 2 things in Sbuilder.... i might put off release for another week or 2 just to add a couple of things other than the taxi signs, but i am not sure yet. I'll keep you posted.

Working on something as tedious as several dozen taxi signs, one thing to keep in mind as mentioned above, is to save the .sbp file but also keep one or more backups of the same in safe places. It's no fun chucking all that hard work down the toilet.

To get the .bgl file compiled I select all (drag the arrow pointer around all objects, etc.), everything then turns green and the bgl creation tab at far right can then be used. If nothing is selected first, then it won't be compiled period. Don't forget to "copy files to BGL folders" when doing so.
