I understood what it was, but it looks like it's just broken up the plane in the back end, mainly on the wing.

Heres how I do it,

- Use the lasso tool to outline the area I want the heat blur (Or polygon lasso if in a complex area)
- Once selected, I just use the standard blur tool once
- I then do the "ocean ripple" distortion with ripple size and magnitude both set at 1.
- and do the same distortion one more time.

Thats it! All I have done recently that way have looked quite good, and it doesnt break up any part of the aircraft. See my "Oh rainy day" post for an example.
 

My specs... A hard drive, motherboard, graphics card, some memory, a keyboard, mouse, and monitor - in other words, nothing special.
