Are there any Sherlock Holmes fans here? My sister-in-law is an Christie fan (especially Miss Marple) but I'm a Conan-Doyle man.
Anyone else?

Incidentally, there's a film coming out staring Robert Downey and Jude Law as Holmes and Watson, respectively.  Is this the reason you fired up the question?

I've seen the trailer, and have my doubts.  Downey as Holmes seems a bit too rugged to play the noble Holmes.  Law's performance (what we see of it in the trailer) seems to be neat enough, although he is not what I would imagine a good Watson to be.

Of course, I had my doubts about Trek, as well.

On the noveller side ( Cheesy) I do believe I have only read one Holmes: The Hound of the Baskerville's.  I was impressed with Doyle's writing, and looking at it, should make an effort to read a bit more.

I'd just been watching some on TV when I posted this, good old Jeremy Brett. I'm afraid anyone following in his shoes will face a challenge, I don't think Downey has what it takes, good actor though he is. He just isn't right for the role methinks...
