Nick,

Can you explain how a core i7 compares to an AMD Phenom II 955 in FSX?  Is the i7 better and why?  I might have to use your knowledge to back up an argument (or lose one).

Thanks,

Jim

Tell them to buy the AMD chip and enjoy it.. and then get out of the conversation because for every person on this planet who knows what they are talking about there are 2 who are unsure but smart enough to figure it all out, 4 who are unsure and just follow what looks good, 2 that are set in their ways but can be reasoned with and 2 that will never, ever even if you prove it to them scientifically back down from their idiotic, moronic, knuckle dragging, bull headed belief because if they did, they would be admitting they were WRONG and will always believe what they see on the screen is the best they will ever get because they KNOW what they are doing

then go fly and enjoy life

Lets break it down to the finish...

The one you are dealing with falls under #3 or someone who is unsure but who goes with what looks good.. this is the target of the INFOMERCIAL called the HARDWARE SITE which generates more income from this target group than any other

now.. then there are the types I usually deal with...

1 (out of the last 2) has knowledge and uses it for highly technical and in-depth standup-philosophy in the subject which people come from miles to read because it reads like this person is in the know and should be writing the StarFleet technical manual....

Mel Brooks played this part perfect:

the other is just a hard-head who likes to stir up trouble and the internet is a good place to do it since you cant be identified, so they think. LOL! They usually have a grudge or a chip on their shoulder and if they had kept their mouth shut to begin with they would not have shown everyone just how close minded they really are but that does not matter... what matters is they must denounce accurate information they do not believe (regardless of the evidence) is true.

go fly

you win

I'm biting my keyboard right now.  I so want to go over there and say this:

"$300+/- for the i7 920 D0...$50 more than Phenom II and far better."

For crying out loud I just HATE to see someone make a mistake like that when they buy their HW.

But I'm shuttin up 'bout it.

If he gets that chip I know he'll end up regretting it.

If you cant argue the tech, stay out of the argument

I did not argue anything.. I simply stated where the misconceptions come from

Unless Frank ha a legit question about something I posted, I’m outt’a that thread now and wont be going into any discussions

That AMD vs Intel crap is kiddie level and deserves no attention

The only reason people are holding onto AMD is because they have shallow pockets.. I can understand budgets but some people are just plain CHEAP and think anything that costs is some kind of designed conspiracy rip-off so they hold on to AMD in order to feel better about their own purchase decisions

I much prefer to have discussions with type #1, #2 and #4 because these are people who listen as well as make a point and many times I get something out of the conversation as well as them.

#3 may listen and then agree after they are presented with correct information..  but as soon as something else comes along that 'looks good' they are right back to the same conclusion and its a waste of my time.  ...and if they bought AMD its REALLY a waste of time because they then become impossible to reason with out of justifying their hardware selections.

Type #5 I will sometimes engage because what they post is horse manure and it misleads people.

My two cents?

I used to run AMD exclusively cause of the cheaper price.  What I was running on those machines didnt care a plug-nickle the make and model of processor.

Until I got FS2004.  That prog led me to switch to Pentiums and I aint looked back since.  For my personal machines.

I have built a number of machines for folks at work, family and church members based on AMD.  I asked them what they would be doing and the AMD made more sense economicaly in some cases.  I now try to push for Intel cause a machine would be more flexible.  The AMD machines do just run and keep running but ya can do more with a Pentium.

Thats the bad penny's two cents!
