There is a dearth of Miltary aircraft (of any vintage) which can be used to "decorate" airports.  Here are a couple of suggestions though:

1. Look for recent AFB sceneries by John Stinstrom. I seem to remember he has a few militray static aircraft in some of them.

2. You can use "flyable" aircraft of the correct type and set up Traffic file in such a manner that the aircraft in question never flies so it appears to be "static".

The technique is quite simple:

Create "dedicated" parking spots (not connected to any taxiway system) using the free Afcad program.  Dedicate them by using unique parking codes for the parking space(s) and in the chosen aircraft.cfg file.

Create flightplan(s) which have the aircraft in question only flying once a week in the wee hours of the morning when the computer is not likely to be on.

There are a couple of drawback in using this idea however.

1. If you use very many flyable aircraft in this manner there will be an impact on frame rates as they are more highly detailed than AI specific aircraft.

2. If sharing, the user would need to download the aircraft unless you had permission to include them in your package.

The techique works very well - I have used it many times when I could not find an "object" to place.

I've used FS02 and CFS models with some success. They are not as detailed of course but they don't give you a huge hit in frame rates either.

(sorry to hijack the thread), but in keeping with the static mindset... I am not skilled in TTools what-so-ever... I know that it is a program that someone would need to make the traffic files for the craft in question.... but could you possibly give an example of an entry if 'I' or anyone else would like to take this route??  I have a few airports that are lacking some military craft that I would like to have some Static craft sitting at just so you have a feeling of it not being a desolate airfield; and I am in the process of building a ficticious AFB / International airport in New Mexico and would like to put some Civil, GA, Military craft at my new port.   If you want to send it by PM then please feel free to do so.

Thanks, and again sorry if i hijacked the thread.  Undecided

And I think everyone on this forum, not of the English persuasion, appreciates that.  It's just that, if every once in a while you feel a gentle tugging, it's just one of us, pulling your chain  Smiley.

I didn't foresee that this simple question would provoke so much dialog unrelated to the question. Enough already.

Yes, its WWII not WW11.

And both the English (my mother's side) and the Scots (my wife's side) have senses of humour.

And I'm still searching for static US WWII aircraft circa 1940-3.  Huh

Thanks for this suggestion. I have the 3 versions so I will likely find the aircraft I want in CFS and CFS2. All I have to figure out is the right method for transferring them over as scenery. Smiley

Thanks Opa. I've had some (limited) experience with TTools, (so far successful). It certainly seems a logical approach to the problem, so I'll try a flight or three. Smiley

You don't need to 'transfer' the over as scenery.
You will need to write some flightplans for them. If you use departure and arrival times of 00:00:00 and compile them with TTools you will get approximately a 15 minute window in the middle of the night when the aircraft will fly.
All other times they will just sit there adding realism to your airfield.

Don't hesitate to contact me if you need any assistance.

I've added FS02 and CFS models to FS9 with pretty decent results.

Here are a couple of examples.
