I just found a new in the box CD version of Lago's FSE for FS2002.
Q. Can this version be used with FS9, and if so, how would I install it.
I realize that Lago is no more, but I've heard that a boxed CD ver. can be installed and used without hooking up to Lago's
use to be
website.
TIA

Hello:
Flight Sim Scenery Enhancer
(aka "FSSE") for FS2002 (FS8)
won't work in FS2004
(FS9).
The version released for FS9 was called
FS Enhancer 2004
(aka "FSE"), which not only allowed placing static scenery objects, but sounds and animation tracks for controlled movement of (otherwise "static") scenery objects.
Like FSSE, it has a scenery object import/exchange tool, and there were also 3rd party converters released to the FS community for import / export of objects from/to GMAX and the FSRegen format it used internally.
It remains the only practical tool for sound and animation placement by end-users in FS9.
FSE's "live interactive FS preview" for static scenery object placement has since been duplicated by EZ Scenery (from Abacus... works in FS9 only) and Instant Scenery (from Flight 1... works in
both
FS9 and FSX).
FSE was a product from LAGO, which has apparently gone out of business and is offline.
Remember
: no matter how LAGO had often failed to provide proper technical support to its end users, they had an outstanding crew of top-notch developers that created their software for them... so let us respect the developers and not let LAGO's reputation as a company be a reflection on the developers!
I think
EZ Scenery
and/or
Instant Scenery
(same author, same "look and feel" in user interface) offer more options and objects to pick from for XML-type placement of "FS Library" format scenery in FS9 (most such scenery still works in FSX too!).
But if you will be working with the FS9 platform for the foreseeable future and wish to use FSE for sound and animation features, if there are any online FS retailers still selling FSE,
get it while you can
; otherwise you'll have to accept the risks of making do with with what you can find on the internet!

I have used, and am still using every day, LAGO FSSE (for FS 2002), and FSE (for FS 2004), together with Abacus EZ-Scenery for all my scenery designs.
LAGO have been out of production for some time now, but I made sure I made back-ups of the installation programs and registration details, on CD....(a couple of CD's to be sure!)
LAGO and Abacus scenery designers are excellent at what they do...what you see is what you get...pick and drop...in real time...especially LAGO!
