Ha! and here I was thinking no one else had ever played this game...  Cheesy

I just got it this week, to use it as reference on my post apocalyptic college project...

I don't know how the other titles were... so I can't say how this one compares to the others... I just stumbled upon this one while searching for things post-apocalyptic in Google Images

For my taste, it just didn't cut it... The graphics are very outdated, the voice acting is well... let's say irritating   Roll Eyes ...There are some physics apparently, and the game concept is nice, although very poorly implemented...

But then again, I don't even know when this game was released, so I could be judging it too harshly based on today's standard... if this game is from 1999, it would be mildly ok I guess... If you don't count the terrible terrible voice acting (really, it's bad  Tongue )

It seems to me the game was made with the Torque engine (or might I say despite the Torque engine)... I worked with this game engine before in college and I can testify that it is a truly nightmarish experience to work with it   Lips Sealed

If i had to give it a rating, I would give it a 3/10... not worth it.

Now, if the game was actually made under the Torque engine, then i'd have to at least say something about the sheer bravery of the developers that had to put up with that infernal piece of software for an entire game... not that my rating would change... I would have removed points anyway for them being stupid enough to actually use it  Tongue

Cheers

PS: Just had a look at Gamespot and found review about it... it looks like they agree with me  Wink

EDIT: Just read through the review (it was better than the game)... it looks like it's not the same game as the one I played... the one i did play was Hard Truck Apocalypse: Rise of Clans, which apparently is the sequel to this one...

Then again, the review still stands... it looks like they haven't changed anything on the new iteration... the voice acting is still horrible and even worse, apparently the first version had an actual back-story leading up to the action (or lack of)... the sequel just throws you into the world without a clue of what you're supposed to do...

There's a slight mention about Edmonton (yes, the city) and you can then glean off the horrible dialogs that the character's goal is to get to Edmonton... no further details are added, except for the fact that you can realize his name is Vagrant by looking at the dialog subtitles, which, by the way, don't really match what is being said  Roll Eyes

I spent maybe an hour playing it, then dropped it and uninstalled as quickly as I could... a good thing about it though, I was getting about a million FPS on my FSX rig  Grin

Cheers again  Wink

Thanks, but i look more into the history of the game. Yes, it is relatively new, but it runs the same engine as Hard truck 2 and King of the road. I liked hacking both of those games and modding them, so it should be fun.

Well i beat hard truck apocalypse. It was good, and the dialogue did suck, but i loved the open world idea. However, the ending was really, REALLY, stupid.  Sad

I found a way to modify trucks beyond what workshops give you options for. It involves modding savegames, and is very fun, i will post a pic of my mutated trucks later.  Smiley
