What worries me about that card is the size of the heatsink and its power requirements.

From the model number you gave in the first post it looks like your computer is a BTX, meaning the heatsink on the card will be pointed up and may hit the cpu's heatsink.

Plus, I don't know if you've ever switched out the power supply. Stock power supplies tend to be weak.

edit: Also, that much ram on the video card is really not needed unless you have a really large or very high resolution monitor.

You can most likely get away with a 9500GT trouble-free on a stock power supply. Possibly a 9600GT... Tongue

Well then...

With the video card I'd recommend 9600GT as the max and to just take a look inside your computer, you're a much better judge on what heatsink would fit. I'm stuck just looking at pictures.  Cheesy

Yep... I also recommend you to open your case and check:

-the space for the PCI-express slot
-the Amperage(A) on the 12V rail, in your PSU

if the space and the amperage permits it (28A+ I guess), you could get a 9800GT, like this MSI for 10 more bucks:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127406

Takes up 2 slots, but it is not too big...

If it doesn't support it... you could go with a 9600GT.

...and next time you buy a computer, build it yourself! Saves you good money that you can spend for gaming stuff! Wink

I agree.  There's no question the 9800 series is (at current pricing) by far the best value within the Nvidia 9000 series graphics cards.  However, I would not recommend it.  The ATI 4870 gracphics card is a superior performer and at current pricing, provides the best bang for the buck.  If you compare the price difference with an Nvidia 9800 card, to me it's almost negligiable.

And I certainly have no use for Sparkle when it comes to video cards. Not exactly the best performers out there.  Either stick with EVGA or  Sapphire.

What operating system are you running currently?

Unless you have a 64-bit OS, there's no need to install more than 4 GB.

Now there's a lot of viewpoints as to whether a 32-bit OS can recognize 3 GB or 4 GB (Some will even say 3.75).  Fact is that you can find plenty of arguments on various computer forums debating this subject.  Most of them are just simpletons just parroting what they have heard or read on other forums without a full understanding of memory mapping and computer technology.  Whatever argument you choose to believe, I would recommend upgrading in same sized modules.  In another words, buy (2) 512 MB modules.... or (2) 1 GB modules...etc.

While that may be true, Nvidia cards have shown to be solid performers in FSX.

So it depends more on what all he will be playing...

My compute rejects ati cards for some reason... Embarrassed

I got one from best buy at half price(I forget which one but it was good) And my computer screen wouldn't show except for a bunch of weird coloured dots.  I had to return it. Undecided
