Well the time has come for a computer upgrade which has been long overdue. Now I don't really know how to find most items but here goes:

Current specs:
-Intel Pentium D CPU 2.80GHz
-1GB RAM
-512mb Nvidia GeForce 6600
-Gigabyte GA-8I945PLGE-RH Motherboard

Yes, I know its terrible, feel free to laugh. Cheesy

Upgrade specs:
-Core2 Duo E8400 3.00GHz
-4GB DDRII RAM
-512mb Nvidia 9800GT PCI Express
-Gigabyte EP43-UD3L Motherboard

Thoughts on the upgrade and should there be any more changes, I'm not a real 'tech head' so be gentle. Tongue

Cheers
Mitch

Hey Mitch!

Good to see you're upgrading... I can't believe you've been able to run FSX on that system and get the shots that you've taken! I'm sure I'll be very impressed from what you'll be able to do with the new system Wink

For about $40 USD more, you can get a Quad core, which is highly recommended over a Dual core. Look at the Q9400. If that's too much, you can still get the Q8300 for only $10 USD more than that Core 2 you posted Wink

4GB DDR2 is good... 800mhz if you're not clocking, 1066mhz if you are

For the video card... If you're trying to stay on a low budget, I would still get the GTX260 over the 9800GT... It's only about $30 USD more and will give you much better results.

I don't know what you'll be doing for the motherboard, but I would recommend this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131317

Here is a much cheaper motherboard that should work just fine:

Good luck mate!

Ok, well I will be using it mainly for FSX. I don't know if I should upgrade from my Windows XP 32bit upto 64bit but I'm definetly not going Vista (to many horror stories for my liking). As for the power supply, I don't know what I am currently running but it will most likely get upgraded to 500W.

Thanks for the tips Andy I will certainly take them into consideration. I will keep you updated on any progress. Wink
