Okay so I tried to get into a flight with a few people here at simv on our server and it wouldn't work.

I was flying fine 2 days ago online but it was by my self. Its not anything with my connection because I was on the internet the whole time.

Anyone have an idea on how to fix this.

Ill try again tommrow but I tried about 10 or more times today. Undecided

UPDATE: I tried another server and it did it again. Everything is accepted from firewall. Undecided

Thanks Cool

..that's what I keep asking tcco......is he using a ROUTER?

If so, he will have to check all the Ports on it, to allow access to the Server....

...otherwise he will get disconnected...and also give other Flyers connection problems as well!... Angry...!

tcco.....read the article at the top of this Multiplayer Forum, regarding "Opening Ports".

Until that problem is solved, he and others, will have connection problems!

Paul...G-BPLF...FS 2004....and NO ROUTER!....Wink...!

This is probably why he was having problems with his FSX Multiplayer connections!

When I changed to a new Broadband Service Provider some time ago, they supplied me with a new ADSL Wired Modem/Router.

It was impossible to gain full access to the Router internal software, (even after purchasing a special £15 "Port Forwarding" program), to open the necessary Ports on the Router to enable Multiplayer activity.

This gave me so many "Port problems" when trying to fly in Multiplayer, that I finally had to abandon the Modem/Router, and purchased a simple Plug-and-Play, ADSL Wired Modem only.
I have never had any (Multiplayer) connection problems since... Smiley...!

As a "single user", with only one computer, I have no use for a Router.

Well im having some troubles now? So its the router tutorial here in the multiplayer forum correct. I read through it, did the command prompt. Got my IP Address but when I enter it into my address nothing comes up. Not that one website or whatever?

Is it because I have vista? Huh

As you are constantly having so many connection problems with both FSX and FS 2004 in Multiplayer sessions, why not ask yourself; "Do I really need a Router?"

If you are the only user of the Computer, and it does not share a connection with any other equipment to the Telephone line, why not use just a simple, Plug and Play, Wired Modem instead of a Modem-Router combination?.... Wink....!

I gave up trying to sort out Router Port problems long ago...far too much hassle for me!... Angry...!

You are wasting a lot of Multiplayer flying time!..Wink...!

Guys, please see the stickies at the top of this forum for help getting the ports/router issues straightened out.  There is a LOT of information up there to STUDY and UNDERSTAND.

Unfortunately the multiplayer thing is not as simple as "plug and play".

You need to have data traffic running TWO WAYS through your internal computer security (inclusing any third party software firewalls) AND ALSO thru the modem/router's security.  BOTH.  This is how everyone's sims know where everyone else is and what they are doing.

Different modem/routers have different means to "open ports" in thier firewalls.  So you have to go to a place like "PortForward.com" or your ISP to get info on how to do that part of things.  Sometimes it is not simple.

Getting stuff opened up in the default Windows firewall is pretty simple (can't say about Vista though.......  Roll Eyes) Read the Microsoft help files on this stuff.

The REAL issue here is fully understanding WHICH PORTS you need to open.  Different servers can require different ports.  Different programs (FSNavigator, AIBridge, etc.) can require different ADDITIONAL ports.

For FSHost flight servers (including the SimV one) there is a handy little piece of software (listed in the stickies) that tests your ports for use on FSHost servers.  If you run it and your machine "flunks"....... DON'T JOIN FSHOST SESSIONS!!!!!!!  Get the port thing fixed.  Because if you DO join........ you are screwing up OTHER PEOPLE'S ability to connect to and enjoy that session.

best,

.....................john

Just set the ports though windows Wink

That's what I did Wink

How is your computer hooked up to your internet service provider?  What type/brand of cable modem, dsl modem, router, etc.?  Because if you ONLY have the Windows firewall configured and you have the right type of internet connection unit.... you do NOT have your ports opened.

You have to separately open them in the OTHER piece of hardware you are running.

I don't know what Mazza's Multiplayer set-up is, but I do know that, with his, and my simple ADSL USB Wired Modem set up, together we can both fly for many hours together without a single connection hiccup with the Sim V server...

Its always loads of fun!...

...(...and I've never experienced any problems on the WS Pilot's Servers with other Pilots, either)....Wink..!

(Frame rate locked at 20 FPS, and running at 20 FPS.......smooth flights!).

It seems like when you have got everything sorted out, its good to go..and will remain OK!

Fozzer,

Just to complicate things even more, sometimes an update to the dsl modem/router units software can reset the firewall ports to the deafult settings without you realizing that fact.  No warning, it just does it.

So sometimes thngs DON'T just "stay working".   Roll Eyes

The whole typical misunderstanding in this "ports" situation is that the person with his/her ports not correctly configured WON'T typically have the problems.  OTHERS will usually have all the issues.

So for those reading this, just because YOUR flight sim seems to be working fine, don;t ASSuME that your ports are fine.  If you are using an FSHost server (like SimV's) CHECK them with the handy little utility listed in the stickies above.

best,

The only thing that concerns me slightly; having all my Ports open and my Firewall switched off before starting a Multiplayer Session, is that I may be vulnerable to various Virus/Mailware, etc, attacks on my computer during that period?

During the day, when I am flying a Multiplayer Session with the computer protection switched off, I seem to receive an enormous amount of "Spam Mail" in my Mail In Box!

(AVG doesn't reveal any Virus's following a Session).

Any thoughts on these dangers, for regular Multiplayer Enthusiasts?

Ports 23456, 23457, and 23458 (at least!) need to be open for the Sim V and WS Pilots Multiplayer sites.

Re-run that Chocolate Software Installation program again...

Paul.

Mine: 23456, 2300 to 2400 all open. (OK).

With high-speed Broadband, (as opposed to Dial up), it should be no different, (or little different), from your usual off-line Solo Flights, even with a number of other Pilots flying on line at the same time!

Just make VERY sure that you have your Frame Rate LOCKED at 20 FPS!
