WINNERS, WINNERS, WINNERS

Judge Harold says :

"Thank you all for taking part in 'my' Judges Choice! I really was amazed to see the quality of the shots in the past two weeks! Honestly, each and every shot had something I really liked, but I could only choose three so ....

Aussiewannabe!!

...

"It almost seems like a conspiracy as Chris won my Judges Choice about Anchorage too. Although Chris and I 'converse' pretty much on a daily basis, I don't think our friendship played a major role in my decision. I truly find his entry awesome! To me this shot has everything a screenshot needs:

First of all this one has great dynamics; the C-17 is about to touch-down, which adds a little 'suspense' if you like. The moment just before touch-down is always exciting. Are we going to make it ...?

Then Chris created a very clever, creative angle; I like the extreme zoom (which - in my book - justifies not showing a complete aircraft) and the fact that the markings on the runway come together at the end of the shot. Clever use of angles!

Furthermore, he has given the environmental elements some serious thought; this shot features some very subtle and sweet cumulus clouds with a light cirrus top layer just peeking through there. Add a few stars make this one very realistic. The custom C-5 in the background is also a very nice and personal touch. I know Chris has a
sweet spot for the Galaxy and apart from that he spent hours tweaking the PAED AFCAD and the traffic to his liking.

This is - ultimately - a shot from a guy who's been stationed at Elmendorf for two years. And I think your studies of Walk & Follow really show with this shot Chris!Congratulations my 'old' friend Grin Can't wait to see what you come up with next week!!"

CONGRATULATIONS Chris!!!!

"Skoker takes a very well deserved second place."

...

"Though his shot doesn't feature any 'well defined' clouds, and an action like this will definitely get you kicked out of the Air Force, I still think it is awesome! If this shot doesn't make clear what I mean by dynamics, nothing will. Though I think he could've disguised the Shaw markings on the Viper, it is a great model (Kirk's?)

I love the heavy load-out. It makes the aircraft look very menacing. I like how Jordan thought about giving the C-17's room in the shot. He could've overlooked to show the complete models while positioning the Viper. This really shows his attention to detail. I also find the mountains in the background a very nice bonus ..."

Third place is for Bob!

...

"Though Bob is famous for his gorgeous FEX clouds, the clouds in this shot didn't land him in third. This 'late springtime afternoon' shot has great coloring, lighting and perspective.

I think the lighting on the scenery is a great capture! It really makes the scenery objects stand out from those dark trees in the background. And the shadows cast by the line of Eagles, plus the lighting of the poles behind them, are very good.

The aircraft has a vivid livery (I love the Russian feel of it and the '13' on the nose stands out very nice) however, I think a little more dynamic positioning could've made this shot the winner."

These are the three winners, but I would like to give a honorable mention to Rob (clever frame you had there!), Mitch, and Shane.

Your shots were amazing too and I like that you seem to have noticed my preferred screenshot style: taken at ground level Wink

Thank you all for 'playing'; I really appreciated all large amount of responses! Good luck to all in next weeks Judges Choice, hosted by Aussie!

Harold"

Nice work on a great comp!

Judge Aussiewannabe (or just judge Aussie?)  steps up to the bench next week! Congrats to him and the other finalists, and great job to all that
entered. Smiley

Cheers

ShaneG

It is intended mainly for FS9... but if you know how and where to install certain parts, its not very hard. On the forums at MAIW there are instructions on how to install their packs to FSX. I found them a little confusing... so I set off to install it on my own, and got it to work just fine.

Thanks aussie! I actually caught that in the morning... just wasn't early enough. If Walk n Follow allowed me to see the afterburners, I would have taken good advantage of FS Recorder and had many more doing a flyby... That was my original idea

Not at all.  The package will work in FSX, don't ask me how since I dont' have FSX, but it is not that hard to install the traffic and the scenery in FSX.

Harold has asked me to come up with some quick install directions for FSX users.  I will get something to you guys by tomorrow (Thurs).  Most of our packages work in FSX apparently.  However since none of our staff run FSX, we can't offer support for FSX users, therefore we don't openly advertise them as being designed for FSX users.  But with a little file shuffling, they will work.

Wink

This is the best I can do for you guys on short notice.  It is a link to an installation guide created by Martin Gossmann and hosted on his own website, The Owl's Nest.

There are all kinds of useful utilities that he has written and makes freely available.  Have a look around, you just might find something useful that you don't already have.

Here is the link to the PDF format guide.  It's a bit lengthy but thorough, which is better than the alternative.

Exactly. What I did was follow some existing WOAI/MAIW packs that were installed via the WOAI installer. Found where everything was and went form there. Everything works great, and I have most of the MAIW packs installed now! Lots of military aircraft flying around!

Cool shot by the way! I like the perspective.

LOL........The "point" is that not everyone out there knows as much about files and folders as the next guy.  We have found out through experience that if we do not make it as simple and detailed as possible, then we end up having to answer questions all day long.

Most people do not know that the prop textures that are used for FS9 AI aircraft do not work correctly in FSX.  Did you know that??  If so great, but most people don't.  Same thing with transparent canopys, their alpha channel has to be flipped in FSX to work properly.

There are all kinds of little differences that exist between FS9 and FSX.  Being thorough, never hurt anyone.

Yes, so there is still time for you to get a shot in. And that you only have FSX isn't an issue anymore. There are all kinds of useful utilities that he has written and makes freely available. Have a look around, you just might find something useful that you don't already have.

Here is the link to the PDF format guide.  It's a bit lengthy but thorough, which is better than the alternative.

Ahh yes the C-17's, the point of this shot was for it to be focused on the sky and the C-17's ended up in it because the "person" who took it was stationed on the airbase Cool

A well deserved win for Aussie! Great shot man. Also congrats to the other winners. For some, this was a harder competition because of having to add something not really intended for FSX. So... getting it to work was a win in its own! Now that you know how to install one, you can install them all!  Cool
