Wont make any difference, all you have to do is close the company down, change the name and the move the nominated post holders one place to the right and you can start again perfectly legally.

Not that an investigation isn't warranted, but why do you feel the need to shut down the company? I would say find out the cause of the crash and if it is at all related to the other crash and could have been avoided. Sometimes things just happen in aviation (especially in those big kitchen blenders
)
There really hasn't been that many more incidents this year than others, just the media is in a bit of a stir about aviation lately. This occurs from time to time when there is a big aviation accident (especially one with compelling video), for the next 6-12 months every crash is proof that flying machines are deathtraps and the public should be afraid. Did I mention the sky is falling?

Commercial air travel can't really be compared to high intensity North Sea oil rig shuttles.
Nasty business. Not pleasant at all.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration there are about 43,000 people killed in fatal car accidents each year in the United States alone.
How many people have died in aviation accidents this year?
You have a better chance of getting into an accident while driving to work than you would crash while flying across the world...

Where did I say shut the company down? I just said they need to ground the aircraft. The fact is, that is two ditchings now in the space of a couple of months, from the same company and the same aircraft type. When you have one accident, it happens, its unfortunate but these things happen. To have two on the same aircraft type and company so close together? Its possible, but there is a greater chance something specific could be wrong. They need to do a proper inspection of all their aircraft and all the maintenance logs to see if something has either been missed or done incorrectly.

Little point in check maintenance logs for the first crash when it has been provisionally deemed that it was a mixture of pilot error and weather. As for the second, there are a multitude of reasons why the aircraft went down. Pilot error, fatigue, manufacturing problem, bad design (generally only come to light after a crash and not before), outside inputs, another aircraft, birds, weather. Blaming maintenance is easy. Fact is though 9.9 crashes out of 10 are caused by anything except maintenance and it is the hero up font that has cocked up.

I'm not blaming it on maintenance, again when more than one aircraft goes down so close to another you just have to check everything. If its pilot error in both cases then something needs to be done down that road, if its an aircraft issue something needs to be done there.

Lets be honest you cannot keep tabs on all the indv components in an aircraft, if something decides to give up the ghost it's game over.
My car may breaks down but it's on Terra Firma so I'm a happy chappy
Don't get me wrong I think flying is great but it was a stupid idea back then and still is now
I guess they'll just keep on falling out the sky as they always have done
876 dead in 2008 safe my arse!!

The initial report blames a "catastrophic failure" in the main gearbox, resulting in what it described as "detachment of the main rotor assembly".

Yes you can and you must, it is a legal requirement. Critical items are given a life. This is calculated in hours. When a component reaches it's life it has to be removed and serviced. It also has an all up life, once this is reached it has to be junked, aviation law says it has to be cut into a minimum of two pieces (so all those nice desktop parts of aircraft on sale at ebay for example??). However, catastrophic failure, that is something that just cannot be covered by the life method. I would imagine it will transpire that a defect in manufacturing or repair has laid dormant and hidden and then on that day came to the fore. Also add in the extreme salt environment the aircraft flies in. There is another huge and deadly problem that aviation has to deal with and that is fake parts coming out of Asia and the Eastern Block. This is also why junked parts have to be cut up. It is to prevent an new coat of paint and being passed off as new.
