This year is the final year for the RAAF F-111 (know as the "Pig") being replaced by the F/A-18F Super hornet.

The F-111 entered service in 1973 replacing the F4 Phantom as the front line bomber. Even though in its 37 year service life the RAAF F-111 has never seen action it will always be remembered.

The F-111 would routinely conduct training excises over Fraser Island using the mountains as radar cover.

The "Pig" will be sadly missed by all when she is retired in mid-2009.
