I presume you are talking about Windows games.
TrackMania is a good one. The 'Nations Forever' version is free. It's just a marvelous game.

I thoroughly enjoy TOCA Racedriver 3
many different styles of racing from F1/nascar to hot rods, stock cars, and even monster trucks at some of the famous tracks from around the world.
from what I know of such things (very little) the realism is pretty good

Agreed. The MSFS of car racing games. More add ons and mod than you can shake a stick at.

Now that I'm totally addicted, is there a way to change camera views?
Not a big fan of the behind the car camera, would much prefer a bumper cam or an in-car view. Other wise this game is AWESOME!!! Thanks Waspi!!
I love the track editor on this game!

Sorry but have you not played that many?
I found it both unrealistic and rather boring all wrapped up into one. Its the one game that has me biting my nails as to what that company will do to the F1 series now they have it.
If they deliver the same acrade style completely unrealistic handling crap they did with Grid I might go down to their offices and punch someone.

Well, if you like realistic racing games then Grid isn't it because it's more of a smash and bash game for people not into serious racing. In terms of fun with Grid it's a 9/10 but realism is barely present. It all depends on what kind of racing you are into.

however it provides a much better alternative than the need for speed series

Grand Prix 4... Game may be from the 2001 F1 season but is easy to mod with various car sets and update to the latest season.
Pure... Off-Road ATV game combining Racing and Stunts, Not a bad game.
Moto GP08 & Superbike 08.. Two of the best Motorbike racing games out there.
Trackmania series.. Extremely addictive games, and a vast online community.

Cheating German? where? All I see is the car of an at the time two time champion.
Next year it'll be a red car.
P.S.. The car that finished the year as a two time champ to be more accurate LOL

Adelaide = Damons own fault no real intention of a collision had he not been in a hurry to get through then he'd be world champ
Jerez = No argument there even Michael admits it, But then again only a few years earlier the almighty senna didn't bother waiting to the near end of the race, he just speared Prost right off the track first corner for the title. (Ooops how dare I speak bad of the almighty
)
Monaco = Stupidity but got punished and gave us the great fight through the field.
****
*** All tongue in cheek for those who take it seriously.
to borrow a quote.. "7 times world champion, the rest is just a matter of opinion"

He was the new Senna. He just never really had a "roadblock" period (Senna 1992/3), apart from the Monaco incident!

for the sake of fairness, i must point out Test Drive: Unlimited
good graphics, and realistic enough to feel like you're really driving, given you get the appropriate gear to play it on (read Logitech g25) or, go the insane fool way, and build it yourself, like me
