I recently installed COD 4 and Half Life 2 on my new PC. However, after about 10 minutes of game play on each, my PC crashes and the colours become all...well...distorted on screen (various mixture of blues, greens, purples, reds etc) and the sound loops extremely fast aswell.

I've gone over and over various forums to find a solution, but I havn't had any luck  Sad Hopefully someone here can point me in the right direction

PC Specs: Windows Vista  32-Bit
               2.4Ghz Quad Core 6600
               4GB RAM
9800 GT (with updated drivers, but problem still occured even before the update)

P.S - Mods, if you feel that this belongs in another forum, feel free to move it  Smiley

Hmm...I thought about that initially, but didn't check it at first. Had a quick look earlier though and all fans are running

Just played Empire Total War for a good hour and a half, in game settings on high, and not a single problem...

Any other suggestions folks?  Undecided

It sounds like a driver problem because I had the same problem with TF2 and other games of the sort before I upgraded.
Nick's new favorite and my new favorite are nvidia's 180.48 drivers. You appear to have the same OS as me so try those out first, if they don't work it might be a physical problem. Wink

Hmm...unfortunately that didn't work either  Sad

Don't understand why they worked fine on a much older rig but fall flat on their faces on a brand new one  Undecided

Looks like I could be calling it a day for Half Life 2 and COD 4 then  Cry

Looks like things have been sorted folks Smiley

It seems I was having paged pool memory issues....closed down my anti virus software and all worked fine...well..on Half Life 2 anyway. Now to test COD 4...

Happy days! Cheesy

EDIT: - Aww I spoke too soon...I got further into COD 4, then encountered the issue again. At least Half Life 2 is fine...lets hope it stays that way

Got a 500W PSU installed. Using a FOXCONN motherboard. All fans are working fine and I've checked GPU temp and it stays around high 20's/low 30's.

Any other ideas? Must be some way to get rid of this problem  Undecided

I'm not sure, but I think you might need more than a 500w PSU for a quad and that video card

Hmm...well it came with the machine when I bought it. No custom job here  Grin

Bit of a kick in the face if a company is selling a machine that has an under par PSU for the hardware inside  Angry
