I was wondering if someone could tell me what target FPS I should set for FS2004 with my computer. It was set at 20 and I changed it to 30, however my Just Flight Concorde Professional is still a bit jerky with these settings. I already have most of the sliders at around 70-80%.

Also, is it possible to fly on VATSIM while using FS Passengers at the same time?

My specs are as follows:

■Intel Core™ i7 Processor 920 (Quad Core hyper threading/2.66GHz/L3 Cache 8MB/QPI 4.8GT/s )
■Intel X58 Express Chip Set ATX Motherboard
■3GB Memory (DDR3 SDRAM PC3-8500 / 1GB×3 / Triple Channel)
■1TB HDD (Serial ATA II)
■NVIDIA®GeForce® 9800GTX+ (Video Card 512MB / PCI Express2.0)
■Windows® XP Home Edition

With some more RAM you could run FSX pretty well, but I don't see how you can get bad fps in FS2004 with that Shocked. I play it full my system (sig)
Only lag with auto gen on ultra dence in major citys Cheesy

I've seen systems with far less horsepower than that run FS2004 with everything maxed out and get perfectly smooth flight. Something else may be going on. You should be able to run FSX with that system.

Did you set-up XP following Nick's guide? If not, do it now step by step! Don't leave anything out. Defrag that HUGE drive by his guide.

Thanks for the replies, lads. I am thinking about using FSX one day, but I want to be able to use my Concorde, which is only suitable for FS2004.

What fps would it be a good idea to set my machine at? Why is there such a function in the first place.

Also, where is the guide for defragging the hard drive? I'll have a look for it, but just in case...

Again, thanks for your input.

P.S. Would FS Passengers and VATSIM together be okay?

Wow, the Just Flight PSS Concorde must be an incredibly detailed plane. I can fly the Posky 777 (I know it's not that fps hard) in FS2004 in big cities with all settings on full. On my laptop. Specs in my sig.

*And I don't even have an i7, but a crappy Core 2 Duo Shocked*

PS: You can use Piriform Defraggler or the default MS Defrag tool.

Edit: Yes, in heavy cloud conditions too.. a stable, healthy 14-17 FPS. Cheesy

FSX is another problem though.. (That's why i'm glad i'll be getting REX soon Smiley)

Hokkaidobhoy,

SimV ni irrashaimasei.

There is likely something really not set up correctly if you are experiencing those kinds of problems with fs2004 on that machine.  It should get very smooth performance and high framerates with fs2004.

Are the issues ONLY with that particular plane?

Have you tried shuting off your anti-virus program?  Have you scanned for trojans and viruses?

Nei, tað er ikki nýttigt. Hann skal nýta O&O Defrag v8.6 ella v11 Wink

No, that's not any good. You should use O&O Defrag version 8.6 or 11. Windows defrag doesn't do anything and it won't even give the right type of defrag needed.

Grin SubZero. I should have been expecting that!

I'm hoping to buy a new GPU for my laptop soon myself.. probably a 8800M GTX/S or 9800M ...

But yeah.. use whatever you want there are probably many more good defragmentation tools internet-wide. Tongue

No, use O&O only. I don't understand why people come here, ask for help and then don't do it! Read the sticky. The other types of defrag tools may do it but probably not. We know that O&O will. Why not use the correct tool for the job!

Arigato for your replies. The framerate issure is only with my Concorde. My target is 30 fps, but this drops to about 7 when I'm using Concorde. My question is this, what would be the optimum target to set fps at to ensure that, should there be a drop when using this aircraft, it won't affect overall performance. Would a 60 fps sound reasonable?

Huh hoje parece ser o dia das linguas nativas no SimV
today seems to be native language day at SimV  Wink

anyways... a rig like yours should be able to run FSX at those settings you mentioned... it's somewhat strange...
i had trouble once in FSX with Wilco Rotor's Tilt X aircraft... their MFD gauges were so heavy i had to swap them out for stock Lear and CRJ gauges  Tongue... it ran fine after that

although in the case of the concorde with all those steam gauges, i don't really see how it could help... it'd be an ungrateful job to replace even half of them, and that's if you knew which to switch  Embarrassed

do the O&O defrag... it could get you some frames back... and follow the tweak guide  Smiley

Cheers
