In simple terms... It's just joining at 18 or as soon as, rather than going to Uni and then joining...  Smiley

Depends on the circumstances. Airline wise, it is someone coming in (as far as I understand) with a full ATPL and type rating for the aeroplane they will fly. In the military it can mean a number of things. In RAF terms, I went to uni, but was still a direct entrant. Wink
