To connect to the server here, I believe you just enter the IP of the server in the connect directly option in FSX (I think, don't hold me to this one. Undecided)

Nope, Shane.  For FSX to connect to a FSHost server you need the intermediary software running to "trick" FSX into thinking it is connected to Gamespy.

I could never figure out all that complication the day I purchased FSX when it was first released...

For that, and many, many other reasons, I have never used FSX for On-Line, Multiplayer Flying...(or anything else!)...

I always use my Trusty, Reliable, Problem-Free, Easy-Peasy, FS 2004... Smiley...!

...so much Joy!... Smiley...!

Paul...G-BPLF...FS 2004... Cool...!

...much of my "Flying Time" over the years has always been spent in various On-line Multiplayer Sessions, so one of the most important things for me (and others) has been the ease of quickly and reliably "Connecting" to Multiplayer...
...and for me, FSX has never seemed to fit that requirement.... Angry...!

To connect to our Server using FSX, follow these steps.

    *   Extract all files in the downloaded zip file to any directory.  (For example: "C:\Program Files\FSHostClient" would be fine)
    * Run the program (FSHostClient.exe) from the directory you extracted the files to.
    * Make sure FSX is in "windowed" mode, not "Full Screen".  At the moment, you need to have FSX in "windowed" mode in order to see the various popup windows from FSHostClient (chat, multiplayer connect, etc.).  You can maximize the FSX window by clicking the middle button up in the right corner, but be sure the "Full Screen" option under the View menu is not checked.  (press the Alt key if you don't see the menu bar in FSX).
    * Disable local AI traffic in FSX.  (Options / Settings / Display / Traffic tab, set "Airline" and "General Aviation" traffic to zero)
    * Turn on player names over their aircraft.  To do this in FSX, click the Options menu, select Settings, then Display, then click the Traffic tab.  You can turn information on and off in the "Aircraft labels" section on the right.  Be sure to turn on "Tail number", in order to see the other players' names.
    * Connect FSX to an FSHost server.  There are two ways to do this.  In FSX, start a flight so you're in a plane, then click the Add-ons menu, select FSHostClient, and then "Multiplayer Connect".  Or if you want to connect before starting a flight, use the FSHostClient window and click the Multiplayer menu, and select "Connect to session" (or just click Ctrl-M).  To disconnect from within FSX, click the Add-ons menu, select FSHostClient, and then "Multiplayer Disconnect".  Or in FSHostClient, click the Multiplayer menu and select "Disconnect from session" (or just click Ctrl-D).  Works with existing FSHost servers, no upgrade is currently required for FSHost, although a new FSHost will be available later to take advantage of new features in FSX and FSHostClient.

Blimey, Sam...

...a definite contradiction in the term; "Plug and Play"!.... Shocked.... Shocked...!

Life is much too short!... Cry...!

.... Grin....!

It takes me, on average, between 5 and 10 seconds to get  fully connected to any Server, with my FS 2004 and FS Navigator Programs, using the default, drop-down Menus......every day!...Wink...!

Paul...G-BPLF...FS 2004...FS Navigator...and an "instant" connection... Cool...!

Thanks there Sam.

So basically it is cheating the game into thinking you are in free flight, but actually you are connecting as an add-on?

So disable the things which would only show up for the client's connection such as AI etc, and then connect through that. Sounds easy enough, shall give it a try in a bit!

Just trying to get my friend to do the same... Probably use FSHost to make my own host so we aren't causing torment on the SimV one.

Trusty Baron is no match for the Acceleration F/A 18. Too bad it will probably show up for all you as the Wright Flyer or something. Now that would be pretty cool.

One final thing...

If I run FSHost, how can I join my own match? I tried using the typical FSHostClient method, but it couldn't connect to me. Any ideas?

It´s quite some time ago that I checked out FSHostClient.
But there should be an option somewhere, where you can choose wich
aircraft to display for a certain player. But this works only for FSX/FSHostClient Pilots.
