this post is merely an overture to what i'm hoping the hardware geniuses here will advise, but a good computer these days basically consists of:
an i7 processor
a compatible socket 1366 mobo
DDR3 RAM
a 260/285 GTX card
and given that i7 CPUs require the new socket, any step short of it would mean having to buy another motherboard when you decide to upgrade CPUs again...
i don't think i'm informed enough to give any more specific advice than this... hopefully Nick or the other geniuses will come for help soon
Cheers
NEW PC SPECS: Intel Core i7 920 - 6GB Corsair DDR3 PC12800 RAM- Intel DX58SO Mobo - Geforce GTX 460 768MB GDDR5 - 3x LG1952h LCDs through Matrox's TH2Go - 640GB Seagate Barracuda 7200Rpm - 200GB Maxtor 7200Rpm - Microsoft Sidewinder X6 Keyboard - 5.1 Surround and a Saitek X52 Pro and Pro Flight Rudder Pedals -- Running Windows 7 Ultimate x64
My
