For Express Members (not forums) Good morning everyone, I am John, Simviation dynamic site programmer. Everything you see in the new dynamic system on Simviation, and the dynamic adaption of the old static system is my creation. I have been lurking on these forums from time to time ever since I started working with Pete, but never registered.

Now I think it's time for a change.

Like Pete, I am very fond of this page, in my case because I put countless of hours on it, and as it seems, have to plow in a good bit more. However, it struck me recently that many bugs and annoying errors in my script could have been much faster adressed if they were reported straight at once, to me, and without Pete having to take several punches before sending me emails.

So, now, due to some reports I have decided to make a quite major shift in some of the core functions on the page (mainly the system for logging in and logging out users) and since I alone simply cannot test out the system to the max by myself, have to rely on quick and elegant reports from your side.

Basically, leave a note here if
  • If you cannot login
  • If you cannot log out
  • If you cannot download more than one item at the same time
  • If you cannot browse the site while downloading
  • If functions previously working properly suddenly ceased to do so

Tell me what browser you use, explain what happens and if needed, provide screenshots.

If there is anything else annoying you with the dynamic site, don't hesitate to point it out. I hope you like the changes I have made for you and the changes that are still to come.

That is most strange. I tried both on my own system with all the modern browsers and then even did it on a friend's computer that only got IE 6. Screenshot from his system:

...

What connection are you on, what browser are you using, are you a premium member or not?

That's standard Spanish. From Spain.

And me, I'm from Sweden.

In regards to your download problems, I do beleive that they are local from your system because non-member downloads are simply direct links without any use of code from my side.

Regarding to your other problems, I thought Pete had a giant section of tools and utilities for editing or making planes (and airports) somewhere [ here ]. Not that I really understand the need to worry when you just download some planes..

Hi John Paul,

there is only one thing I can find that annoyes the living hell out of me (just kidding, it's minor). I am a paying member, so after logging in I get the Premier page of SimV. When I click on one of the links on this main page I always get thrown back to the 'non-members' downloadpage with it's slow downloadspeeds. Only if I log in again (express members login link) I get the 'members' downloadpage.

Like I said it's only a minor thing since I rarely download something.

Browser: Maxthon2

Tried logging in today without luck,  under the username unmanedpilot

Though I guess my subscription could be up, cant remember when I bought it  Tongue

Also when I download I often cant change the page im looking at, download more then one, and sometimes Free Download manager wont open the download link.  I dont know if you have any affect on that but just thought I would mention it.

Using the newest firefox as well.

Hi, That should not happen. There were a few hours during a recent upgrade when this did happen but generally this is not the case.

Can you try again? If it happens try emptying your cache or try another browser and if it still happens can you please give us the exact page you went to from the main members 'menu'/'downloads' page?

Thanks

Hello Pete,

must have been something in the cache. Cleaned it and the problem solved.

Thanks,

OK - looking at these replies ..

We are looking for bugs in the new system ... Once identified they will be fixed.

General site help is available that answers most of the above

Please only report problems experienced using the site/download system/navigation or problems experienced as a member, member download, navigation, etc.
We have other areas for asking if your membership may have expired or reporting broken links.

Thank you.  Cool

If i log in as premier I cannot go to page 17 to get the Rocky mountain scenery for FSX.  Premier starts you at most recent, the page index in the url is 1000????, when you click  the 1, you end up on page 18, so that index is out of sync as well on the page top right., then you have to use the previous page link at the bottom to continue back.  Only it dumps you out of premier.

ummm. ....I  paid for premier to download the rocky mountain files faster.

oh well, I'll be in the backcountry tomorrow for real.

BTW rocky mtn 6 appears corrupt- i downloaded twice to be sure, chrome and ie

Hi

The 'mismatch' is due to a new system - the dynamic one - superseding the old static one.

However you are right about being dumped out of the member system when going from the new pages back to the old ones in FSX scenery. This will be fixed.

Meanwhile the way around it is to log in - go to site map and click the last page listed there in FSX Scenery. This will take you to the end of the old system pages.

Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience.

Good morning, sionnach.

Thank you for bringing these problems to my attention. Both issues have now been resolved. You can once again download at high speed from the old system and the page error has been corrected.

Thanks.  I did try Sunday night and still had issues...download rates as 19kb/s whether premium or pages that didn't seem to indicate they knew I was premium, what i think you refer to as static system.  Anyway, it was around 0000 GMT Monday, so maybe system maintenance.  Downloaded quickly this evening.

Thanks for a considerate  and timely response.

OT: the rocky mountain 5 scenery is so good that I could find the places in the backcountry where I went skiing.  I just wish the Auster MkV cabin light illuminated the cockpit instead of the observers seat...

I cannot download a file since October. I thought it was anything temporary but I still can't download. I've tried multiple computers and multiple operating systems.
I always get this error:
...

As this isn't too satisfactory i've decided to use "wget" (I've translated to english):
Code:
$ wget ftp://www.simviation.com/47military/Ra-5CupX.zip
--2009-12-19 16:35:43--  ftp://www.simviation.com/47military/Ra-5CupX.zip
           => `Ra-5CupX.zip'

A conectar www.simviation.com|205.252.250.27|:21... conectado. (connected)
A entrar como anonymous ... Entrada com sucesso! (successfuly connected!)

==> TYPE I ... feito.  ==> CWD /47military ...  (done)
Pasta '47military' inexistente. (The folder '47military' doesn't exist)

I gived another try, using the "ftp" client:
Code:
$ ftp 205.252.250.26
Connected to 205.252.250.26.

It is very strange because I can see the file but when I try to download it, it says the file does not exist :|

Do you have an idea what can be causing this?
Thanks,
Miguel

Hi

Sorry you are having problems.
A couple of things :

1. Anon FTP connections will be blocked unless made using a browser. FTP clients will be blocked. Browser only access.

2. WGET will not be able to connect because it is a download manager that works by making multiple connections to a file. Mutliple connections are blocked outside members area to control bandwidth.

3. Most browsers are fine -- Firefox,  IE & Chrome. Opera seems to have a problem but we have not recieved many complaints as most people will just try Firefox.

I suggest you try Firefox to see if you still have the problem.
