Airport Design Editor and SDK's (Read 772 times)

I just installed Airport Design Editor, in hopes of making my home airport closer to the real thing. However, after I installed and ran ADE, it gave me a new user wizard. I followed the steps, until it told me it needs paths to work properly. I clicked find, but it only found FSX, no SDK's. I read that you need the deluxe version of FSX to get the SDK's. Is this true? If it is, is there any other possible way to get the SDK's? Because if I can't get the SDK's, then I'll have to live with no hangars, incorrectly placed fuel pump, taxiway markings wrong, and several other incorrect things. Cry

I'm pretty sure, that you only need the SDK to compile an airport.

You can't get the SDK's any other way though.

Try sending me your .ade file, (use www.sendspace.com), and I'll compile it for you Smiley

Thanks a lot for your offer, but what's a .ade file? (I'm pretty new at this)

You mean before I edit it right? Because when I open Airport Design Editor, it says "Cannot find BglComp folder. Please check your folder settings." From what I remember, BglComp was a SDK it was looking for in my first post.

If you've edited and saved an airport, go to C:/MSFS/FS Design Tools/Airport Design Editor/Work.

There should be an .ade file of your work there. Send me that Smiley

ADE needs the FSX SDK.  The only way to get it is if you have the deluxe edition of FSX.  The alternative is to buy AFX.  This does not need the SDK, however the cost of AFX needs to be taken into account when compared to the cost of the deluxe edition.  Also to be borne in mind is that a lot of other scenery design tools for FSX expect that you have the SDK.

Well, thanks a lot for your help! It may be a while until I'm finished, though, since Google Earth images are pretty blurry, and I'm going to have to wait until 8 inches of snow and ice (mainly ice) melt to get measurements. Cheesy
In the meantime, I've done some work, with lots of help by the tutorials on ADE's website and a free version of Google Earth. Here's what I've done so far (keep in mind this is my very first experience with this)

http://lotsofaviation.wetpaint.com/page/Project+KPYN

I'm still trying to figure out what those two buildings in the bottom are supposed to be (One of them are highlighted), but otherwise, I think it's good for a couple hours. If you see any problems, please tell me so I can correct it. (I'm not done yet... Smiley)
Since tomorrow is only 10 minutes away here, can I create custom objects (signs, buildings), apply textures and add them? How would I do this? Huh

They are generic buildings.

For that you would need a 3D design tool such as GMax or FSDS.  There is also a tool called Instant Object Maker (I think that is the name) that allows the creation of simple objects
