Since Murjax seems to have disapeared, I think I could do something like this for FSX for evryone. I've already got an airport modeled that can handle any aircraft possible in the FS or real world (biggest runway is 20,000 ft). I would just have to add the private hangars in. If anyone is interested, I will start to get the lots made and I'll post pictures soon. The only thing you guys may not like is the location. In order to fit all of the runways (lots of them) and parking and stuff, I needed a remote location. So, I went with the most remote I could think of, and put it in Antarctica. I can move it anywhere though. I will take new location suggestions if you want it somewhere else, I just need lots of room. The original has some glitches I haven't been able to fix anyway, so it won't be a big deal. Who's interested?

Sounds good! Not to sure bout the Antarctica bit though, it's got problems with GPSs, and it's a bit far from anywhere. What about somewhere in the desert?

Are there any oasis in the deserts of FSX? That would be a cool place.

Okay, here's what the Antarctica base looks like:

...

Complete With:
-5 paved surfaces, 10 runways
-100s of GA Parking Spaces
-A Bunch of Military Parking
-Aircraft Carrier Practice Runway (with huge overrun, just in case)
-Windsocks and other varios scenery items
-Some hangars

So, do you guys want it bigger (can't imagine you would), smaller, what?

I'm also going to need more people interested in this to make the project like the one Murjax started for FS9. If I don't get some more people, it will just be a nice airport, no private hangars.

I'm still deciding on a final location, but once I have that I'll start putting diagrams and options for hangars up.

Cool

I think I have the location. It's in the Arizona desert. It's got a little lake for a water runway. It's pretty flat, oh and did I mention it's practically next door to the Grand Canyon? You can't really beat that kind of place. Check it out:

Don't forget to tell me about size. Is it gonna be a lttle ranch or a huge thing like above?

I'm afraid not Sad But I can handle AI traffic, and anything that involves ADE.

I'll check out the location tommorow. If anything, placing it by the lake would be a good idea, we can't forget our floaty friends Cheesy

Yes you can, and so can lunitic_8. I'll obviously make it so it fits in the space. There are some hills on each side of the lake a little but away from the lake, so it will not be as large as the one I've shown. 1 or 2 runways, and a water runway. Then, all the parking spots. If you want to check out the location, start at Grand Canyon National Park airport it think it is, take off and turn to about 230-240 I think. Fly straight till you hit a lake.

It's a pretty small lake, so at that speed you'd need ot be fairly precise, and I wasn't.  Cheesy You would've needed to go at heading 242. That is the exact number, if you took off from runway 21 and used the exact turn as me.

Hm, I'm not all to fond of the area, for several reasons:

1: Altitude. The place is located at around 6000 feet. Most props will be more or less struggling at that altitude, and planes like the Cub, are probably kept better at low altitude.

2: Surroundings. The area is very flat. It's pretty much in the middle of the desert, and there's nothing to look at. And I think, that glider pilots would like some mountains as well.

I think there was another one... but I forgot, so it can't have been important Cheesy

I got some doubts about the size of the airports as well...

First, a 20,000 feet runway? Even the Shuttle Landing Facility 'only' has a runway of 15,000 feet, and I doubt we'll be seeing any shuttles Cheesy

And about all the parking spaces... It'd probably be suicide for most system to cram a number of planes into a place like that, think about what a few hundred will do?

I don't mean to stomp on all your work, I really don't Wink

BTW, I've flown around Minden, Nevada. IMO, this serves the purpose of putting an airport better. It's located at a lower altitude (around 4000 feet, which is still a lot, but can make quite a difference). It's surrounded by beautiful mountains, and there's a huge lake nearby. It's also a famous area for gliding.

IMO, this just seems like a better place, rather than an empty desert Undecided

I'll look into that location. You bring up a lot of good points. As for the 20,000 foot runways and the hundreds of parking spaces: I don't plan to do that for this project (that base was just kinda' a project for me to practice creating an airport form scratch). There will be only a few parking spaces for "visitors." Each member that signs up will have their own hangar (big enough to fit small to medium size planes). There will probably only be one to two paved surfaces (2 to 4 runways) and one water runway.

The specific area I'm talking about, is a few miles South of Minden-Tahoe (airport). There's also a lake, which is by far big enough for a water runway. However, to preserve the hills around that place, an artificial lake would be easy to place Smiley

And I've jusr fallen in love with the huge lake, and small airport just North-East of there Cheesy

The problem I see there is that everywhere there is a flat surface for an airport, there is already an airfield. Could you show me exactly where you propose it should go? I do like this type of area better than the desert  so far. I thought I had the final location, I don't think so anymore. I'm glad I didn't start making it yet.

Okay. You will be able to bring in Mooneys, Ceesnas, Those type of things. Lear Jets and Challengers, that type of thing. We're probably looking at something withtin the 5,000-6,500 foot runway. I might put in one or two larger praking spaces out in the open for a larger plane, like a private Embraer or something, but this isn't meant to be a major airport.

Quickly sketched some possible runways, to give you an idea of the location Smiley

...

Lake Topaz is large enough for a water runway, but another lake can be made for the purpose.

Lake Tahoe, along with the airport there, is just marvelous... really beautiful Smiley

Reno is also a few miles North Cheesy

The locations you show me look good, but I don't like how there are so many airports all around it. It wouldn't really be as much of a private airstrip. I'll put a poll up and we can see which area is prefered. I'm not sure which one I like better myself.

both area's look like they would be great but i do like the nevada area that Anxyous has found...reason being that it is at a lower altitude so more types of aircrafts can enjoy the scenery verses in the grand caynon area it is almost at most GA planes max ceilings...i didnt realize that when i made the suggestion for Arizona or California's death valley, i also suggested that type of area because of the Seclusion with the proposed airport with the 20000ft runway, so i am going for the Nevada area Cool and yes I too would like a hanger Wink

Well ,neither were really my idea. Also, this airport's not just for me, it's for everyone. I think everyone should have a chance to decide the location. I voted too, but I might not count mine.

Cool

I'll close the poll on Friday, or whenever there's no more votes. That's how we'll get our final location. If someone had a better suggestion they should have spoken up sooner.

Is the nine people including me?

One other thing is, would I be able to land an MD 90 there?

Edit: Nevermind, I will be able to land as long as stay around the 130,000 pound mark. (But I will be have 20,000 pounds of thrust more (than the normal MD 90), composites and higher lift wings...)

So yes I probably could take off here...

(And yes the plane I'm describing is the custom one I'll be working on...)

Yes. And no, it's not too late for anyone to sign up if they still want a hangar.

You should be able to take off and land, but you will not be able to fit it in a hangar. I'll have some larger extra parking spaces in the members area for larger aircraft. By members area, I mean I plan to have an area for people who sign up, and a smaller area for visitors who did no sign up. The members area will include all the hangars and a few larger spots, and the visitor area will include no hangars only about five parking spots. If you're wondering, all hangars will be marked with their member's name.

Not sure yet. I'm kinda' making this up as I go along. There's gonna' be a row (like a street) of hangars. Each hangar will be assigned to a member. There will be taxiway signs with each member's name on it pointing to their hangar. Each hangar will have a fence. Each one will most likely consist of a hangar and a parking space in front of the hangar. Each parking space may be labeled the members name, or we could do it by adresses.  Cheesy Yeah, we could name the street and make each hangar a number, like a house. There's some ideas on what I plan to do with this. I told you I was making this up as I go along.  Cheesy

Yeah, I know. I double checked that. Oh well, taxiway signs will be sufficient.

The poll is extremely close. Perhaps too close to call at this time. Hopefully one of them will be ahead by tomorrow, but it probably won't. I don't know if I can declare a winner if it's incredibly close like it is now. I might have to make two.  Cheesy

The poll is now closed, and as you can all see, the results are extremely close. The results are so close that without my vote they are tied. So, instead of making half the voters happy, and half of them mad, I will make a Minden Simviation Neighborhood and a Grand Canyon Simviation Neighborhood. These will be downloaded as one package. I think as a celebration of the neighborhoods, we could do a multiplayer flight from Minden to the Grand Canyon when it's all done. I'll start making the airports now. They should be done, tested, retested, and released by March, unless I have a major problem to work out.

*If you still want a hangar, it is not to late to sign up for one until the files are uploaded.*

There's plenty of room. I'm not restricted to a limited number of spaces like Murjax's design was, so there's always more room. I'll put you on the list.

*Progress Report*

Here is what the Arizona Neighborhood looks like so far.

...

Most of it is there. I still need to add most of the hangars. The one's that still need to be added will go in the big empty space in the middle. If I run out of room there, the will go on the outside. I'm working on a dock for the water runway. Guest parking spots are in place. Taxiway signs are all there except for one's with member's names. The runways are there, along with a dirt runway.* So, most of this one is here. Once I get it all done I'll sent it out to be tested, then I'll start the Minden one.**

*How should I connect the dirt runway to the asphalt and concrete of the rest of the airport and still make it look good?

**Who wants to test it for me? I need one or two people to make sure I didn't forget/overlook anyhting.

Cool

* You you could blend the taxiways into the dirt runway, but still so you can see the difference between the two.
Looking good! This probably will be my main airport, at the mo is Edwards.

Nevada, near Lake Tahoe. I decided to make two, one in each location since the poll was so close. It was a tie without my vote.

Sorry, I know I said I'd have it out by now, but I ran into a few problems with it (you can also see the size of the hangars):

...

All of the hangars came up way off from where they should be. I'm trying to figure it out. I tried to enter a hangar and it says crash, so I'm trying to figure that out too. Any ideas on how to fix those problems would be great. Other than that and labeling the parking spots, the Arizona one is done, unless we want ILS on the runways. Do we?:

...

Also, I'm not seeing this new ADE beta anywhere Anxyous. Could you give me a link?

Cool

If not an ILS, we should at least have a non-precision approach or two Smiley

And looking great! Can't wait, to get my hands on this Smiley

Some hangars have problems, when entering. You could try a different one Smiley

I do spot a problem with the water runway...

IMO, it should be fitted in a lake, otherwise it looks fake.

And second, once you've landed there, where are you gonna put your plane? Cheesy

Do we want a nice gardener in Arizona that makes it all pretty and plants grass in the fertile desert soil for us, or do we want plain dirt like it is now?

The only things that I would need is the general Location of where anyone would like an airport and to get the EXCLUDER program, and a Flatten File program so that I can do a little land clearing and grading before I start any kind of construction.

(being that I am actually in the construction industry in real life.... I would like to offer a bid on the project to the Project Engineer / General Contractor... lol )

Hey Brando,

I haven't been around much lately (thanks to an extensive college search) but I remembered the Murjax project.  I just stumbled on this one today, and if it is possible, I would love to get a hangar.  Also, not sure if anyone else would be interested, but would it be possible to put a jetway on the side?

Thanks for picking up the SimV Neighborhood,

I haven't been allowed on the computer lately. I'm really not supposed to be typing this right now actually. So I haven't been able to work on it at all for about the past two weeks. Sorry for all these delays guys.

If you want Anxyous, I can send you the ADE file for the Arizona one and you can put the finishing touches on that. You might as well start the Minden one too, because I don't know when I'll be able to get any work done on it. Sorry.

After seeing too many little issues with this project, I am completely redesigning the Arizona neighborhood. I think doing this will make the airport not only look better, but be better for our purposes. The Minden airport will do the same.

Also, I think I will be able to finish this in a timely manner. So I will hold off on sending you the files Anxyous.

Cool

We're going from this:

http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/SimVNeighborhood.jpg

To this (all the hangars will go in the gray area):

http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/SimVNeighborhoodRevised.jpg

No more third runway dividing the whole place in two. It will not be as confusing. It won't look like a huge international airport anymore, just a nice fly-in spot for the SimV members. The runways will still be long enough for semi-large aircraft though. I think one of them is around 6200 feet.

Tell me what you think.

Cool

I already have one to get rid of all the plants, which type do I use for default scenery objects like power lines?

Oh by the way, that grass thing may be in question. When I add it all my apron links turn to grass too.

I do have a solution for the latter, use an airport background instead of a land class Smiley

One of the best and easiest to use object placer has got to be Whisplacer. It is so simple and easy to use and you get the exact position you want instantly  Wink.

it is RUNWAY 12 Object Placer it would be at AVSIM.COM...... but lucky for everyone here...... I just happen to have the .zip file safely saved to my External HDD along with FS9 and FSX and all of their related files/folders & subs.  here is a link to which anyone can get it from me if you want it (there are 4 library files that MUST be downloaded as well - links provided)

Runway 12 Program :: http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/syb2.cgi?section=misc&file=rw12_program_v12.zi...

you will also need the following libraries (objects) so that you can place things around::

Library #1:: http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/syb2.cgi?section=misc&file=rw12_lib1_v12.zip

Library #2::  http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/syb2.cgi?section=misc&file=rw12_lib2_v12.zip

Library #3::  http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/syb2.cgi?section=misc&file=rw12_lib3_v12.zip

Library #4:: http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/syb2.cgi?section=misc&file=ExtraObjects.zip

I can not get the following Libraries due to internet problems and my IE8 saying that the pages can not be displayed..... but here are some NEW library files that just came out on www.rwy12.com :

(OPTIONAL) Library #5 (article -- animated sharks):: http://www.rwy12.com/rwy12/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=9&mode=thread&...

(OPTIONAL) Library #6 (must download all 3 on the page to get 2 library sets:: http://www.rwy12.com/rwy12/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=10&mode=thread...

If you would like / need any help in getting the .bgl's to compile decently and easily and then to get them to your sim, just shoot me a line or 12 and I will print up an easy-to-follow tutorial that might be easier to understand than the one supplied with the main program.

While I have everybodies attention in this.... I just wanted to let everyone know and be aware that I am currently working on an airport in New Mexico.  It is still only in the "site work construction phase" as I still have ALOT to do to it.... but to follow my WIP (work in progress, please browse to thread: http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1241494239

UPDATE::

I am almost finished with the taxi signs for my above mentioned airport at the link supplied in the previous post. I only have to place about 6-7 more and I will stop there. As soon as I get these #@$% signs placed, over to the packaging department it goes to the beta testers. then 1 week after that will be the GRAND PUBLIC RELEASE.

Unfortunately at this time, my airport is FS9 ONLY!!!! but I will be making it FSX Compatible hopefully within the next 2-3 weeks.

Also, just to let everyone know that might be interested,  I will be making an update to it later in the future, but I am not quite sure when yet.  I want to get it converted before I do anything else 1st.

Update for KDVI: Desert View International / AFB..... in the link above, you can find a few pics of how the final stages of the airport are turning out....

I have it out to my Beta Tester at the moment, and if he says everything looks great to him and that he can not find any major problems with it, then I will upload it to the servers sometime this weekend!!!!!!

happy viewing and flying!

btw, my next project that I am going to try and make is an Island with a lagoon in the middle for some float planes, and a small brush airport on land for the wheelies.    Might be interesting!!

It's basically done. I just need to work out some hangar placement issues. Here's some shots:

Arizona:

http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/smva1.jpg

Nevada:

http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/smvn1.jpg

http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/smvn2.jpg

I wish there was a way to make the hangars wide but not so tall.  Cry You can see that these are big enough to turn around in a 737. You can see the placement issue too. They come up a few feet above where they should. I just need to play around with that to fix it. Other than that I just need to asign hangars (alphabetically) and it's done.

hangar height:: I dont know what program you are using to place the hangars, but if you are using Rwy12 (cause i know it is part of the program) .... when you are in slew mode to get the coordinates for your placement, UNcheck get altitude in RWY12. ...... for whatever reason, slew picks your aircraft up by 1 1/2 feet i guess so you wont be scrapping your tires on the ground when you move around.  When you exit slew, watch your plane... it drops like 1 - 1 1/2 feet and then quickly settles down.

well, in placing buildings, you have to subtract that 1 1/2 foot to get the actual height for your building.

I like the big hangers personally,  You can fit just about everything in there.  Cool

Except for this...

...

The jet is so big, you can see the lights would be on the wings if it was a Boeing 737! The wings on an AN225 don't even hang off the edge of the runway! I really don't think that this would fit in that hanger!

B-valvs, if you need any help in placement, I do have a few scenery placement programs at my disposal.   Its been a while since I worked on KDVI - Desert View International (http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/perlfect/search/search.pl?p=1&lang=en&include=...), and I would like to get back into making ... something.  I need some ideas though.

I may know how to fix it, but now I just need to figure out what files need to be sent and where to install them so they work. The simple answer would be to have you all install ADE, but some people may now want to do that.

here are some im getting from a google search
http://www.keepandshare.com/htm/free_file_sharing.php
and heres something i found that I think it uploads nad it is password secured(not 100% sure watching demo of it now.)
https://www.dropbox.com/tour/2#1
EDIT looks like you do file sharing from computer to computer. For example you link to other computers with accounts.
Take a look if ya want still, doesn't seem right to me for some reason...

A hangar in ADE, notice it's perfectly centered on the apron:

In the sim. Now they're off to one side. They are all like this in my sim.

...

Better yet, Shane says when he tests it, it's not like that.  Angry

From the ADE Support Forum:

Quote:
Chances are that the origin (reference point) of the hangar object is not in the center of the footprint. ADE up to 1.45 assumes that the origin is in the center and very often it is not.

ADE 1.46 is in beta testing at the moment and addresses this problem so that ADE will recognize the actual origin and use that as the reference point of the object. Should be available shortly

Would it fix it, if you just moved each hanger over a little bit?

Or would it just be easier to fix with the new ADE version?

I checked again, after seeing your shot above, and they do indeed look like that in my sim.  I was expecting a bigger offset when you asked about it, and to be honest, I didn't even notice they were off a little until you posted your shot above.  Wink   I had no problems driving a 737 out and onto the taxi way, so I thought it was all good.  Cheesy

Hope it smooths out for you soon, this is really a great project.  Smiley

Smiley

I've tried that, but it's guess work and looks sloppy.

I was going to release it today before I noticed this problem. Like Shane said, it's hard to see. I thought I fixed it when I checked it in top down view.

Instead of waiting for a new version, I'm just going to use addon hangars. That should solve the problem.

You are to late for a hangar. There are extra parking spots though.

Trying to work out a hangar issue right now. That's the only thing keeping this from being released.  Smiley

Not if you fly FS9. I'm planning on doing an FS9 version. My problem is, ADE, my design software, is extremely limited with what it can do. I may not be able to do it until an update for the program is released. Expect more info after this one is released. And don't try to sign up for the FS9 one now, 'cause it will be ignored.

Cool

You shouldn't have to do anything else. Check the front of the hangars. They should say "Tune ______ to _______ for attendant.

I knew I forgot something. You need these hangars installed:

to activate the radio/doors..... once you tune NAV 2 to a frequency of 115.5, at the bottom of the radio stack you should see a few buttons.  COM1 / COM 2 / BOTH / NAV 1 / NAV 2 ... ETC ETC ETC.  Click the NAV 2 button.  This will send out the radio signal to tell the attendant to get off his lazy arse and open the door.

Is this scenery specially made for only certain people? or are you going to upload this to the SIMV download pages so that ANYONE can get it along with all pertinent files (hangars) ???? I would really love to have the scenery package, even though I do not have a hangar.

bad news. I just downloaded / installed the SIMV Neighborhood airport.  Well, SMVN puts me dead in the middle of AFRICA! and the SMVA puts me in the Tropical Atlantic off the south-western coast of AFRICA!

any idea of what is going wrong?  I installed per the README but I am no where near Arizona or New Mexico.

hehe. i think i know what the problem is.....

and it is a "CAPT OBVIOUS / OBLIVIOUS" mistake.  Im trying to put it in FS9 .. lmao.  so of course it is not going to load in the same place. AZ / NM.  oh well. looks like im kinda stuck on this one unless I reverse engineer the .bgl's to FS9 versions.

This will not work in FS9, sorry. Once ADE has more FS9 capabilities, I will make an FS9 version.

Some other issues:

-You must have these hangars installed:

http://www.flightsim.com/file.php?cm=SEARCH1&fsec=0&fname=DWAG_HAN.ZIP

-There is a sign problem:

BrandonF wrote on Dec 30th, 2009 at 7:57pm:
I know, but I see three. In Arizona, There is one hanger which has your sign and then right behind it (just a few feet) there is another sign that has the the correct name.  Wink

Here's a pic in Airport Design editor:

You can see your sign right in front of the other guy's.

EDIT: Similar problem in Nevada, except this time your sign is behind the other one.

I have fixed it, but I haven't sent it out. I would like to hear from more people to see if there are any other little mistakes befre I send out a fix. Hint, hint to those that signed up.  Wink

-The ADE file is not needed, but it is there just 'cause.

-Airport Names:

jime59 wrote on Dec 31st, 2009 at 8:56pm:
I noticed that a new name might be needed for the Arizona airport with SimV City for the Nevada location.

How about Sanctuary ?  Undecided

Just a thought.

They are not named SimV City, they are in SimV City. The Arizona Airport is Simviation Neighborhood Arizona (SMVA) and the Nevada airport is Simviation Neighborhood Nevada (SMVN).

-How to open the hangars:

Tune Nav2 to 115.5 and activate it. Unfortunately they all open at once. Get over it, the other ones did not open/close at all.  Cheesy If you are in a plane without a Nav2, you cannot open the hangars. They are not crash sensitive though, so you can taxi right through the door.  Wink

-There is a public version here:

I think that's it for now.

Cool
