I move this from FSX area I need advises from the nice people of this site

I don't know what I'm going to do, maybe its too good for me,or maybe I got so used to xp that I can't faith these new stuff..

I have ask to few friends  around here and all agree by telling me are you nuts?

VISTA which Im still testing it ,so far its a very cool O/S nice explorer 7 I think, the media player awsome, tools for everything great , the desktop with the gadget thing
BUT , I have lost some of my dearest old softwares and I can't use my TV/Video card ,my PCI audio card which I had my gameport (the adaptation of the gameport doesn't work well ),and Honesty I see IT EATS TOO MANY RESOURCES of the machine when even nothing is running (This is one of the thing I really don't like it and is pushing me to think to go back to xp) Shocked
but it make faster games especialy FSX

,and why is always downloading Updates (Don't get it?)and BTW My main HDD a small 80gb is full with not all the softwares I use to install and is being desfrag by the own VISTA defrag system 2 times

I would have to think that I have waste my money in Vegas ,I gamble and I ran out of money ,I can't even think about to use it latter because window 7 will ERASE the name VISTA I think

I don't know if I should l go back to Xp  Embarrassed
Any
Nice

Hi Alrot,

Vista is a tricky business for everyone i guess... some people like it and swear by it, and some others can't bring themselves to even look at it anymore...

i've had my trouble with Vista, for the exact same problems you're mentioning now... too great a performance hog, compatibility issues and the whole shabang  Tongue

personally, i don't recommend Vista... or didn't until lately... because you see.. there is a problem... XP is growing old... and as much as i would prefer to remain with it which in my opinion is the best OS ever produced my microsoft, the growing lack of support for XP is discouraging at best... and one does feel the pressing need to move on... but what to?? Vista sucks... and windows 7 is still far from official release, although available in beta, but i can't say anything about it because i'm not the kind of guy who has PCs laying around ready to format and try on a new OS just for the fun of it

so it's a tough choice to say the least...

i myself have 2 computers, a desktop which is my gaming/simming/working computer, and a laptop, for more casual use... the big one is running XP, nor can i see it running Vista in the near future (this rig is, too, growing old)

and the laptop uses Vista, but it's starting to get real heavy on the limited hardware of the laptop... and i'm starting to have second thoughts about keeping it

my grandpa has a laptop too, which came with vista, and i was glad to remove it and replace it with XP shortly after he got it, so slow it was...

so yeah... though choice really... old and dying but fast OS or new and pretty but slow??

Yes ,there are wonderful things in VISTA ,I was looking for a Burner like Nero..LOL ,I didn't realize that Vita has already a burner for DVD Data and one of the most acurate DVD movie maker never sen one like this before! ,and like xp an a movie maker, also burns data to a cd Music and everything I want, one of the things I love most is the gadget which it shows my condition of my network ,incoming outcoming MBPS ,Hours date ,CPU Condition,RAm condition, ..I really love this things..

Go back to Xp is a step back ,I would feel dissapoint to myself .

I think is a matter to get use to it ,and find the way to replace the old hardware and software ...

and yes ,Is a bit slower than Xp, and eats a lot of ram memory and CPU activity, all this is like when people being for years ina specific Job and suddely got fire and then find another new job ,the first days are hard ,weird ,everything is strange, and all he things is he going to quit this new job ,Like in this example I think is to hold on here and get use to it

I also have an old P3 in my right side having xp with the fSX-SDK ,I use this computer to assist me while (watching Photos of real planes and shaping in gmax etc) I'm working in this one ,In my case  I really haven't found Yet a good reason enough to think not to use it(Not yet I hope Undecided) , I spend a good part of my pocket buying it ,  money I would use replacing my ordinary Normal Monitor to a LCD 17 inch instead . But is done pepper (I really hope not to regret this and not become this in the first worth/huge mistake of my year Cry),  I'm trying not to see the bad things as slow ,and the huge eaten resourses (my cpu high speed fan activates and un-activates everytime thing I didn't never listen while I was in Xp,It was only low speed)

I'm still lost between many inovations ,all the people I know around agree with you , something posted here has a very powerfull point posted by HarvesterR

I'm trying myself to see the positive os VISTA ,otherwise I'd feel very bad as I said before It would be a dump money to the garbage, and my money resourses are very limited .,, Maybe I will go back to Xp or maybe not ,and
this is the important of this thread
like your help me to see diferent point of view of people Like me ,that works making things in 3d max or Gmax and playing FSX in which so far FSX runs much better inside VISTA ,Nobuddy here plays FSX

thanks for your opinion HarvesteR and Pepper, they are very important to me I hope to see more opinions to make my own Idea what to do...I'm a bit confuse Undecided

Alex, I'm in a similar situation... I've used Vista on my new laptop for just under 2 months now, and have had nothing but trouble with it, Its been restored to Factory settings on quite a few occasions and even this didn't solve the problem's i was having.
I Managed to get the drivers for it for Windows Xp, and downgraded from vista... And i noticed the difference straight away, No more blue screens of death and various program errors due to it running like a dream... Only thing that made me put vista back on was the lack of certain features.

John..... seriously thinking about downgrading again...

Just wondering what flavor of Vista folks are having the most problems with. Is it 32-bit or 64-bit? Basic? Home? Pro? My dad has Vista Home 32 bit in an HP Media PC and has no issues using it. We even installed all his old Windows 95/98 programs with no comapatibilty issues.

Oh Jezz !!! I'm having a lot more problems than positive things ,I can't fly well due to this adaptation of my gameport http://www.roychaffin.com/MIDI-Gameport-support-pack-for-Vista-32bit.html ; my small homemade VC doesn't work well and I can't control the plane

I just looked my 80gb HDD is full (with what, I unistalled FS2004 to give it more space and now is full again) few minutes ago a very similar Win98 blue screen just shows up telling me a problem  ,sometimes the shutdown sequence Hangs, I couln't record the US predidential thing yesterday because I can't count with my Video /TV PCI card, and the HDD/ the network activity is always doing something IS Working all the time ..Oh Jezz! Embarrassed

Thanks For helping me Out people the worth thing we made is to try to Hide to ourselves our mistakes, we Lie our mind to make it real, .. VISTA is a good Cool software but is not practical ,EATS too much resourses and I can't find in what, why such of space in my HDD , what does it need too much Memory, and why isd always forcing the cpu without doing anything?
too beutiful, I loved the windows dvd maker, But Is too heavy

Thanks guys  Smiley
