The VRS Superhornet that is.  This is an awesome bird and anyone with any interest in modern military aircraft needs to check it out.

Every system is modeled, down to hydraulic subsystems, electrical systems, and just about anything else you can think of, and each can fail in a realistic way, either by arming it to fail before the flight, or by getting yourself shot by a SAM during flight.  But don't worry, you can fight back, since all weapons systems and ECM systems are modeled and can be used to take out that SAM site with a HARM or shoot down anyone in your radar scope.

Or, if you're the pacifist type, you can always use the powerful navigation system of the Hornet to fly wherever you want.  You can even add and delete waypoints mid-flight, by either selecting a nearby airport of VOR/TACAN station, or by keying in the coordinates manually, then have the autopilot do all the work, while you enjoy the view and play with all the buttons in the cockpit.

Enough talking, on to the fun part...

Enjoying the sunset from 8,000 feet...

...

The lighting in this cockpit is great...

...

Making someones day a lot worse with an AMRAAM...

...

Almost Home...

...

But, by far the coolest part of this is the ability to actually take out targets.  For example, I have a SAM site that I want destroyed.  I switch to A/G master mode, select a HARM missile, choose my targeting mode, lock-up the offending SAM site, point myself at it, flip the master arm on, and fire, which I have done in the following picture (sorry it's a thumbnail, but I would have exceeded the size limit for the thread).  If you look at the right DDI (rightmost cockpit screen), you'll see a circle with "SA" all around it.  Each "SA" is a SAM site and the display shows their direction relative to me.  The boxed "SA" is the SAM site I have targeted and fired on - if you look closely in the bottom right of the HUD, you'll see the orange/yellow dot that is the missile I just fired...

...

After the missile reaches the target, you hear a satisfying "pop" as the missile explodes, and the SAM site is destroyed and it disappears from the display and can no longer target you, as you can see in the following picture, the boxed SAM site is gone...

...

This adds a whole new dimension to flight simulator and is almost a whole other simulation in itself.  It is definitely worth the money and if you want to pick it up yourself or found out more about it, here's the link:  http://vrsimulations.com/

Thanks for sticking with me through all this. Wink

Very cool.

I'm assuming that the active combat shots are being shown within FSX...in a mission? That's pretty good coding!
Wink

EDIT: Just saw the site, and it says "coming soon" for FSX.....but either that is a misprint.....or they REALLY did work beyond my comprehension, and unlocked a whole new way to experience FS2004.
Active, dynamic combat in FS2004....I thought we would never see it!
I wonder how they did it.

It is FS9, but from what I hear, the FSX version will be even better. Wink
