There seems to be wealth of experience on these forums so here goes.

I am relatively new to the FSX scene, and I've spend the past few weeks attempting to configure my PC for optimal FSX performance, in the process upgrading my 7900 GS video card to a 9600 GT.  I've read about all sorts of tips and tweaks, some of which I have implemented, but I am having a peculiar graphics issue and I am hoping somebody can comment or point me to more information.

The new card works great and just about doubled the performance of the old card (with regards to FPS), however at various times I see flashes or lines on the screen.  For example, I'll be flying along and a portion of the ground or sky will momentarily flash to a solid color or I see lines on a portion of the screen which you might say resemble claw marks (several parallel lines).  Both of these effects appear in random locations and at random times, and appear for just a fraction of a second.

Oh... My configuration is FSX w/ SP1 and SP2, E6600 2.4ghz, 4GB Ram, 320GB SATA-II HDD, and a 9600 GT 512MB at 1920x1200 running the very lastest Nvidia 181.20 drivers.

I've experimented with the game settings and it definitely gets worse when I crank up the complexity.  Turning DX10 preview on or off seems to have no effect on the issue... the issue is there with the DX10 box checked or unchecked.

I've also installed Nhancer and configured it and FSX per NickN's instructions and it too seems to have no effect on this issue.  The random flashes and scratches (lines) still appear.

Now I've read several posts about flashing textures and spikes with Nvidia drivers, and I've even seen a video of the issue on YouTube, but my issues appear slightly different in that they appear at random times and at random locations on the screen, rather than say just a runway texture.

Does this sound like the flashing texture issue that so many seem to have encountered?  If so I understand there may be nothing that can be done, but can anyone point me to more information or perhaps a trick that will help minimize the occurences?  I've searched these forums and elsewhere, but quite frankly I am on information overload right now.

Interestingly I don't remember ever having these issues when using the 7900 GS, however I had the sliders set coservatively.

Thanks!

Sounds like a V-sync problem. Did you make sure to check 'Force V-sync' in nHancer?

I can't say with 100% certainty that I "Forced V-sync" in nHancer, but I followed NickN's instructions to the letter double and triple checking the settings he perscribed.  If he said to check it, I did.  Smiley

I've also got Alacrity confirgured and it certainly does help, but in the interest of time I do most of my testing without it.

Now, I don't want to open a can of worms or go off on a tangent here, but in my last round of experimentation I uninstalled nHancer and saw my average frame rates increase substantially (~15%) when using the Nvidia 181.20 drivers, checking AA, selecting Ansio, and turning on DX10 preview in FSX.  Both scenarios were tested with the sliders at about half and without launching Alacrity.

I'll try reinstalling nHancer for another round of testing.  So much testing... when will I actually get to fly?  Wink

THANKS!

I gave nHancer another shot last night and I can say with no uncertainty that the problem is worse with nHancer running (w/ Forced V-sync).  With nHancer running the flashes and scratches appear every few seconds, or more if I move the view around quickly.  Without nHancer the flashes and scratches occur much less frequently.

Oh well... I tried.  I guess I'll learn to live with it.
