REX. Comes with completely re-done water (coral etc.) high def photoreal clouds, completely re-done and great taxiways and airport environment, sky themes etc. REX is easier on the frames than FEX. REX looks better than FEX. Smiley

I would have to agree.  It seemed to me that REX added a lot more to the sim than FEX did.

Some people might not like me saying this but:

REX is the mother of all weather add-ons.

Just a few screenies I took of REX:

Well worth the money!

I put of getting FEX beacause of REX, and now im not sure if i made the right decision!

REX looks good in screenies, but in the sim it is quite static, alot of the water looks crap at sunset/sunrise, tim used FSWC quite a bit in his preview shots so what you saw was not REX but REX with shader enhancements done by a free 3rd party program! basicly tim lied! and some of the water looks really over done in the sim but is great for shots, which lets be honest is not what you really want.

i almost wish i had got FEX now, it may not come with replacement textures for the ground but the water seems alot more usable, but REX does have some good features, just not sure i made the right decision on my choice of add ons Sad

just my 2 cents

J, I would have to disagree on the water issue.

I am currently not using FSWC with REX as the water using normal REX seems more natural to me.

Here is a late afternoon (Sun-set) shot taken with REX water and no FSWC.

But again anyone is entitled their opinion and I fully respect others feelings  Wink

Maybe getting FEX and using it with REX would be the Ultimate mother of add-ons  Wink

REX adds much more to the sim than FEX.. that' s just a fact. there's no need to be calling the guy a liar.. especially if he was using his own payware product with a freeware product that many know about and use nowadays. now if he had used a payware water shader program then that's a different story. the solution is easy.... just use REX with FSWC to get the results that FLYING MOUSE showed with that single screenshot up there.. there's just no way that FEX can produce such water effects even with FSWC by its side

i called him a liar because his shots did lie! he did not admit to using FSWC in his shots until a member of the FSWC dev team called him out on it.

To me that puts the product down a little right their, that water shot is nice. I dont own FEX so im only going on what i have seen in shots.

REX is nice, it just didnt live up to the hype... well nothing ever does really IMO

He doesn't directly admit to using FSWC but maybe you haven't browsed their whole website. They are supporters of FSWC. Note the "OUR VALUED SUPPORTERS" section on the front page of the website.

Also note that they are displaying photos of the coral/underlying ground in the the water and are not directing your attention to the color of the water and/or the the reflection intensity etc. So what if they did anyways? They can do whatever they want. It IS their product.

PS, FEX, not good.

Erm this thing went a while back and i think came up on the FSW forums then in a private convo between some FSWC people and Tim. He did not admit to using FSWC until someone said hang on a min thats not quite right, ok if you think its ok for someone to advertise a product like REX use FSWC in the shots and not say btw these shots are using FSWC then go you, i personaly feel that he cheated people a little.

REX is nice, the clouds are good, the suns are not great IMO, ground textures are good though. Just out of the water sets present only a few real improvement IMO, and lets not forget that personal opinion is what this discussion is about.

FEX is not a bad product, and while REX was being hyped for a long period of time, people were enjoying FEX.

Both products are after the same slice of the market, and FEX got there first, now REX is the cool new kid on the block, and does have some really excellent features, but that does not instantly make FEX not good.
What happens when FEX decides to upgrade and one up REX? Will that make REX instantly bad.

This discussion could go on forever with no real winner or loser in this debate. For every person that likes and supports one side, and equal number will do the same for the other.
This is a decision best left to the individual consumer.
Best advice is to do your research of what each offers, will offer, and what your system can handle.

Wink And I'm not picking a side in this one:
Personally, I went with neither one. I converted the FSskyworld 2004 textures to the FSX format. Works for me, look real, and they were free. Smiley

Regarding clouds specifically, would you guys say REX is an improvement over FEX, the same, or FEX has better cloud textures?

To answer your question I would suggest you browse some screenshts of FEX main site and then some screenshots over at REX.

IMOH REX beats FEX hands down.

It provides not just clouds but water, airport signs, runways, taxi, lightning and much more..

AND IT IS CHEAPER.
