Hi. I have just joined the forums and would be grateful if someone could clear up a Direct 9/10 question for me.

I am looking into buying the following system in a month or so with an aim to play FS9, mainly on VATSIM and using FS Passengers.

■Intel® Core™ 2 Quad Q9550 (2.83GHz L2 6MB×2)
■Intel® P45 Express ATX Motherboard
■4GB Memory (DDR2 SDRAM 800MHz / Dual Channel)
■500GB Hard Disk (7200rpm / Serial ATA II)
■DVD Super Multi Drive(DVD±R×18/ DVD-RAM×12/ DVD2)
■NVIDIA®GeForce® 9800GT (512MB / PCI Express2.0)
■Windows® XP Home Edition
■20" monitor

Would I be better going for a Nvidia 9800 GTX, or would I have compatability problems with FS9 and Direct 10? I really don't understand much about what Direct 9 and 10 means, but I want to make sure that my new system will run my FS9 and its add-ons properly.

What would be better in this situation, 9800 GT or 9800 GTX?

I have a few freeware add-ons, the Overland Boeing and Airbus payware, and the Just Flight Concorde Pro. I'll probably add Heathrow and Charles de Gaulle in the future.

Sorry for being long winded and thank you in advance for your help.

looks like you're gone now...

but just in case you're still reading this.. this computer should run FS9 no problems at all with sliders all the way to the right  Wink

as for FSX, you should be able to do OK with it as long as you set up your system correctly and take your time tweaking FSX and setting up its settings correctly

SubZer0, NickN, thanks for your input. That makes me feel a bit better about shelling out for a new system.

Which driver would you recommend I go with; the 9800 GT or the 9800 GTX?

Again, thanks indeed.

This is FS9 not FSX so either solution would work

An 8800GT would also work
