head's up on buying memory from Mushkin's site.. I ordered Nick's recommended Mushkin (DDR3 1600 7-8-7-20.. fastest available!) about two weeks ago and still haven't received them.. I called them today after much time looking for their support number (their site doesn't tell u much..) and they said that they received an bunch last week but they failed testing so they expect to receive more this week to test.. and if they pass then they will ship.... I paid $270 for the memory and after two weeks I still don't have it and probably won't for another two.. Unbelievable.. their support forums SUCK now that their best guy (Greg) just left them so now no one answers any questions.. many people are receiving bad sticks and having to RMA them and after a month or so they still don't have the RMA ones back in their hands...

anyways, I just thought I'd let you guys know what's going on with Mushkin and my experience with them has been HORRIBLE.. the only reason I don't cancel the order and just get different RAM from Newegg is because this is the fastest RAM available at DDR3 1600 and I want it.. so if you get a new system and don't want to wait a good month to get your RAM.. DON'T go with Mushkin!

Angry

so I've had my system sitting in my room and not being able to use it because my triple channel kit isn't here yet...

thanks Mushkin  Smiley

Ok.. so your interrupting my down time so you can have an online hissy-fit because your toy is not together yet

Let me get this strait… instead of sending you what they think may be defective product, you are mad because they did the right thing and held the orders?

Granted they probably should have contacted you to let you know your order was delayed but do me a favor, you are trashing one of the best memory companies on the planet and doing so not because you got defective product but because your new toy is not working yet… OK, I can dig it but lets be reasonable.

So there is some kind of issue with the batch? I will check on it but I did not know anything about it. If I had, I would not have made the recommendation.

Life is full of surprises and delays sometimes.

And just an FYI… going from 7-8-7 to 8-8-8 DDR3 1600 on i7 is NOT, REPEAT NOT the same type of loss as going from CAS 7 to CAS 8 on past Intel.

If you are unhappy with what has happened I suggest you ask for a refund and order 8-8-8 DDR3 1600 from Newegg

By the way, OCZ just released CAS7-7-7 memory DDR3 1600 and its at Newegg making it faster than Mushkin

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227381

If you overnight it, you will have it before xmas

EDIT: Whops!   Too late, out of stock... it was in stock when I checked earlier today

So 8-8-8 is your option and it will clock just the same, just not the same latency

Sometimes things dont go the way we planned..  I have had to wait to complete a build many times because of delays like this or I had to settile for something else since I usually build cutting edge..  delays like this come with the territory

now calm down and realize your angry because its xmas and you want your toy... crap happens   Smiley

One other thing too... If you are REALLY hard up and dont want to pay for overnight shipping you can walk into a COMP USA and they may have the OCZ or Corsair triple channel 8-8-8 product in stock

Check their website and call first to confirm

Nick,
I respect the fact that Mushkin is one of the best memory companies out there.. however, in customer support.. they are not. I've been looking through their online forums for days now and I have seen many complaints about their shipping and RMA's.. many of the products they have sent out have turned out to be defective..

I understand that they are doing the right thing by testing the memory before the ship it out to make sure it works.. but I have been waiting for over two weeks now and I hadn't received any information on the status until I called them myself..

about the batch.. they received one last week and they ran tests on all the sticks and many of them turned out to be defective so they had to send them back and ask for more to be tested this week.. maybe next.. I'm glad that they're doing that but please understand that I spent a lot of money that doesn't come by me often at all and it's hard for me to wait for something so expensive without knowing what is going on with my order..

I don't care about the fact that it's almost Christmas.. I could care less.. I would have had this 'fit' had it been any other time of the year.. the reason I am upset is because they did not tell me a thing about my order status and I waited for two weeks without knowing anything at all..

if that OCZ memory is faster then I will wait for them to become available to Newegg and buy them and get my money back from Mushkin.. thanks for letting me know about the new RAM from OCZ anyways

take a break from the hectic forums.. you deserve it  Grin

Where...

show me the huge line of complaints please

links

and like I said.. welcome to my world, this is cutting edge tech and it does happen. Just because you did not get an email or message from them does not mean they are 'bad' or have 'serious problems.. it is the holidays you know and people are taking time off

You should try getting defective product 2-3 times in a row without them testing it and pulling your hair out thinking its you, your settings or your motherboard defective.. I been there before too with other compaines

I understand being frustrated as I have had the same thing happen over the years to me from Newegg, Mwave, Corsair, OCZ.. you name it, they all have their good and bad periods but posting the way you are about it is in my opinion guided by anger instead of reason

I'm going to cancel my order on that anyways and just get the faster OCZ..... even if I have to wait longer

Sorry... you are being unreasonable

I see absolutely nothing there which indicates a 'huge problem' 'major customer service' issues

Those posts in that forum are no different than what you see at Corsair, OCZ or any other memory company support forum.. go read others

There is no 'consistant list' of repeated issues for the same product and all without answers

Now Nick told you there would be a delay

http://forums.mushkin.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=12840

and apologized and also offered to set you up on a email so he could personally look into it and keep you informed as to the progress of the new shipment

If you cant accept that, then get ready to do the same thing with OCZ, Corsair or any other memory company some day.. perhaps not on this order but it will happen again especially when dealing with cutting edge performance product.

Im sorry you are upset Andy

Its just the way it is sometimes and its no different anywhere else

you are right Nick

I've been impatient and inconsiderable of the fact that they're doing this for good reasons and so I don't have trouble with their product

now that my rampage is has calmed.. I'd like to apologize to everyone for having to read this crap that I've posted.. I need to learn to be more patient and considerable of why things like this happen.. if I had a business then I'd do the same as they are doing now so my customers don't struggle with my product

I've learned my lesson today to stay calm and not rant due to impatience and inconsideration

once again I'm sorry
Embarrassed

anyways, now that I'm done dealing with this in such a way.. I have one question if you don't mind, Nick..

will the Core i7 work with 2gb ddr2 800? or does it only work with triple channel kits? the reason I ask is because I'm thinking of just setting up my system now.. that way, when the memory gets here all I have to do is just pop the sticks in and start overclocking..

uh huh..

and you need that system for work like I need my boat transported  back to Washington through the Panama canal for a big meeting

LOL

OK now that we are on a more realistic line of conversation

No, you can not use DDR2 memory in that board.. you can not even use DDR3 which will run stable that requires more than 1.65v

Dude, dont BS me.. you were out of sorts cuz you want your toy working.. I can dig that but dont sit here and tell me its because Mushkin ripped you off or lied to you, they have major problems with CS or repeated problems with their memory cuz you aint foolin nobody

LOL

I ran a division of Boeing between the US Department of Defense and special 'needs' research and development projects. I did not fall off a turnip truck yesterday my friend. I have seen and heard every whopper and cock-and-bull story ever told on this planet

ROFL

Sorry you have to wait and its unfortunate but the bottom line is Mushkin did not ship crap out to you and let you deal with it and ship it back for warranty like a few companies I know pull that $hit and instead held the orders based on their QC and gave you an open invitation to be in the direct loop with the replacements. What you did is just plain WRONG in trashing them.. emotional or not.

Now...  if you want memory fast then do what I posted above and get the CAS 8 product from COMPUSA which you can drive to quick.. call them first. You can clock that stuff and get an awesome result. Yes the CAS 7 product will squeeze more out of the perf but dang it.. its not like going from CAS 7 to CAS8 on older Intel.. your clocking a i7 man, although better CAS7 and CAS8 is not that far apart in a i7 clock.

... I've already done quite a good job of making myself seem like an ass and have sincerely apologized for my comments.. quite frankly I don't appreciate your continuous attacks on me. if that's not how you mean it then I'm sorry again for taking it that way but that's what it seems.. I'm sure you've done stupid $hit during your lifetime as well and I have admitted that this is such a moment for me and I would appreciate it if you would stop making me seem like such an antagonist after only one screw up in the time that I've been here.. I have a lot of respect for you Nick and I've even sent you a PM apologizing to you personally even after publicly apologizing here in the forums.. it'd be great if we could just go on and stop arguing here.. it's bad enough I've made such a fool of myself in front of everyone here in the forums and I hope everyone can take my apology and get on with everything...

lighten up

Of course when I was younger I have blown off steam when I was completely off base ... and in the wrong place too. It usually came with a can of whoop-ass which set me strait too

LOL

dont take it personally

I probably would not have continued this had it been a "Im mad because I did not get my memory when I wanted it" but thats not what happened here dude. You trashed a legit memory company with outright bull

you can be mad at me if you want
but you pull bull like that and THEN try to back it up with EVEN more bull, you get what got comin too you

I did it when I was younger and
I got what was coming to me too!

just let it go and be happy...

Im not mad...  its actually sortof funny in which I am sure you dont feel that way right now   Grin

I really do hope you have a great xmas and you get that rig fired up real soon as I am sure all this will pass soon after   Grin

It ain't about winnin man... its about whats right

If what you said was true I would have had it posted all over the internet by now to make sure people were properly warned

Do you know what I would have done to you if I had jumped the gun based on what you said and posted that globally?

LOL  consider yourself lucky I checked things out!    Grin Grin Grin Grin

I dont have any love for Mushkin, Corsair or OCZ and if they are pulling $hit I will nail them just the same as I would nail anyone else.

Im serious about that memory from COMPUSA .. if your planning on clocking that i7 to 4GHz and you dont want to wait for the best you can get running CAS8 @ 4Ghz compared to what you are use to running will make your head spin and the difference is probably something you may not even notice.  Unclocked of course is a bit different

I hope you get it fired up soon   Smiley

I'll sleep on that Nick.. if you say it won't be much of a difference between cas7 or cas8 at 4ghz then I might as well go get it.. I'll wake up tomorrow and see what I decide but I'll probably end up driving the 17.2miles to get it tomorrow in the morning before work..

one more thing that I'm contemplating is which thermal compound to apply to the heatsink.. I've ordered Arctic Silver 5 from Newegg but it's not here yet.. but I do have the thermal compound that came with the heatsink itself.. will it make much of a difference in temps whether I use one or the other or am I safe to just go with the one that came with the heatsink?

AS is overrated and old news

OCZ Freeze will beat it becasue it does not require curing and it does not break down like AS within a year and require re-application and it will run about 1-2c cooler

http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/cooling_products/ocz_freeze_extreme_therma...

you wanna know what I do?

What ever you use, spread it thin like onion skin. I dont use the 'blob' method to apply compound.

I usually dont worry about the compound type when I first install the CPU, I will spread just about anything to fire up the system and break it in over a period of weeks. Once I confirm stability and the processor is not defective I remove the CPU and lap it.. sand the top of the CPU with 280, 400, 600, 800 grit sandpaper on a flat plate glass surface till its reflective, then use OCZ freeze and reinstall

wham, temps drop and im ready to rock for a year or so

once a CPU is sanded like that, you bought it.. which is why I install and confirm for a few weeks even if I may not run it maxed out. Once I know its all good I lap the proceesor and apply the better compound.. spread it with a strait edge plastic edge card as thin as onion skin but covered evenly

I've decided I'm sticking to the Mushkin memory

Nick, I'll probably send back the AS5 and get the OCZ Freeze going by what you said..

I'm also going to get those fan grills for the case and an extra 120mm Scythe fan with the fluid dynamic bearing

Thare ya go... spend the time getting that tower properly ready for clocking and airflow

you will be GLAD you did that!

Sooooo much quieter and soooooo much cooler at the same time

There is only one CPU paste that is better than OCZ Freeze and its only found in Europe right now.

http://www.thecoolingemporium.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=21_27&products_id=37

It will typically run about 1-1.5c lower than OCZ Freeze

(which aint much)

PMFJI, Andy but I'm glad you decided to stay with Mushkin. I've been buying from them for years and have always found them to be a straight up company. Last product I purchased was the DDR3 1600 7-7-7-20 IT ram. Needed it in a hurry and called them. They still had stock and Nick (Mushkin Nick) went down to the bins and grabbed the best he had and made sure it went out that same day by essentially walking it through the system. I call that above the call for customer support.

Sad to here that Greg left tho - he will be missed.

Merry Christmas to all!

Vic

You think your situation is bad.

I ordered 5 seasons of get smart off of TimeLife because my dad saw it on TV and wanted it so i bought it for christmas.

I ordered it on 20th of November

It said 28 days to ship i was like "ok well as long as it's here before christmas so i can give it to my dad"

nothing

last friday rang them, they said it would be here on monday

monday. nothing.

tuesday. nothing.

on their site they dont even tell you whether or not they are using a courier company or Australia Post (the national posting company for australia). I also payed big moneys for these, along the line of $250 (for a 16 year old thats a fair bit) and i can't even give them to my dad for christmas  Sad.

When they reopen after christmas im gunna tear em a new one.
