You may or may not know that I am a fan of the Twilight series (half way through the third. My lovely friend bought me the fourth and it is is under the Christmas tree)
You may also know that the film recently came out - Today (rather, yesterday... 10 past midnight) in the UK, last month in the US I believe.
Owing to it being the end of term yesterday I was able to go watch it today whilst other schools were still at school.
I do like the books, it's just my sort of style and I think they are quite well written. The film, however, seemed like a bit of a letdown. Very much jumbled up... Important parts missed, stupid and fake parts added. It did follow the storyline (by that I mean it started with the main character moving from Arizona to Washington and ended as it should) but the rest was dodgy. Quotes from half way through the book were shoved in towards the start. It seemed to skim all the parts rather than bother going into it all. The bits that were good, were indeed quite good. On the whole, it was a low budget film made by a director I've never heard of - Though I believe she got fired and won't be making the sequel.
If I am honest, I think you would be clueless if you didn't read the book first. If you do read the book first, you will probably be dissapointed. So confused or annoyed, it's up to you.
Not saying it was a disaster, but it could have been so much better. If they stuck to the book for inspiration, it could have possibly been one of the best films of all time (with a bit more funding) because I think they got most of the characters quite well. The main girly could have been a bit less wooden, but most of the others were pretty good. The intro was something a bit different... But then you keep getting scenes where it is obviously fake - For example, jumping long distances through the air or running extremely quickly across the ground where you can pretty much imagine where the strings were attached to the characters.
A thing I came up with to describe it, which I am quite proud of, is: The book was 'Twilight'. The film was 'Twilight: An attempt to rewrite'.
Anyone else been to watch it? Don't let me make you feel as if you shouldn't watch it... But don't expect it to be as good as some of the films that have been released this year.
Your verdict, if you have one?
Cheers

My wife started the books yesterday, and she is on the third book as of today, and about to finish it (cough addict cough) Needless to say I am appreciating the books because the TV is all mine now

I will not touch Twilight as I hate romances and I would rather be dead (honestly) then watch the movie. Every girl I know loves Twilight and tried to drag me along to see it but I was "sick" last month.

If you get into it, it can be alright. Yeah, a lot of the girls do go on about it so much.

Well, the wife finished the series (the books) so of course I had to take her to see the movie. I haven't read the books, so I can't compare the two, but that movie could have been a lot cooler. WAY too much romantic crap. I asked my wife if there were 20 pages of them two staring at each other in the grass. A ton of dry filler crap that really drug the movie out. If they had cut out the filler I would have liked the movie, the action scenes were pretty sweet and the baseball game was cool. The storyline is pretty good, but all that filler was ticking me off, nealy put me to sleep three times while they just stared at each other and the camera went around them. Over, and over, and over...you get the point.
$40 bucks wasted in my opinion.

Yeh the film was mostly a lot of rubbish surrounded with some decent scenes. A lot of the scenes were just conversation and generally progresing nowhere, but then again the book is mostly a day to day account of Bella's life - A lot of the same thing, but suprisingly a bit more interesting than the film let it out to be. And they slaughtered that lullaby (bit on the piano) by putting it in every song they played.
And yeah if you are talking about them in the 'meadow', then yep there's a good chapter on them just staring at each other lol.
The next one should be better... Higher budget, different director etc. I would like to have done the trailer for it (New Moon) for A level media studies, but turns out trailers isn't what we are doing. Darn.

Yeah the wife was even disappointed in the movie, but she said there will be a different director for the next movie, so hopefully that one will be better. She also mentioned the meadow chapter to me after I complained about them just staring at each other for 10 minutes, apparently the chapter had much more to it than the movie showed
Maybe I'll read the books, we'll see. I like the story line so far...
She also said it will be about 6-7 years before the movie for the fourth book will be released, which is supposed to be the best one yet, hopefully they learn a few lessons and we'll get a badass movie out of it. I love the underworld series, would be nice to see this series come out on top...

Hehe. Well, New Moon (2nd) is supposed to make a release about this time next year. Maybe they'll take a break after that then make the others.
Eclipse, third book (I've nearly finished) offers a large battle I think - Not quite finished - and some other interesting bits. But there is a lot of talking, finding out about how their family came to be etc.
Too bad they didn't make Twilight great. First impressions 'n all. It sort of deserves to be really good.

Usually the first shot is the best, but judging this series, I think it will get better as they go along. i already know what happens in all 4 books so I won't drop any spoilers lol, but from what the wife is telling me, the fourth is the one to look forward to. Bella....nevermind, I won't spoil it for you.
On another note, Rosa or Rosie, whatever her name is, is HOT in the movie, she better stick with the series, nothing beats a sexy vampire!!
(no I'm not into goth or anything like that, she's just hot!!!)

Yeh my friend has a habit of spilling the beans... A lot of "Have you got to the bit where X happens?" and I'll be like "Nope, but thanks for sharing the next chapter with me" lol.
I already know most of the ending details.
Rosalie is supposed to be the most glamourous, sexiest person in the whole of the world 100 years back, or so. I think for what she is
meant
to be, she isn't quite it. Alice ain't bad aha.

Either way, Rosalie had me gawking in the movie, especially in those baseball pants and the tight jeans with high heels...
And yeah, Alice quite the looker too, and her attitude is way better than Rosalie, but still...I think I have a crush hehe
One thing that ticked me off, was how in the book they described how BEAUTIFUL they look in the sunlight, but in the movie, they just showed him with glitter all over him when he got in the sunlight, I laughed my ass off, and got smacked by the wife

Ah well there's good reason to Rosalie's attitude. Ask your wife about why she has a dislike towards Bella.
It all makes sense aha.

Well she started going on about it at the start of the third. Shall see how it develops.
I've got the fourth one wrapped up downstairs under the tree courtesy of my friend. It's too bad that it just has to end in the fourth. You do get very familiar with the characters and I'll have no idea what to read after it. Nothing is quite the same, so nothing will quite fill that gap which wants to read on.
Suppose I'll have the next 6-7 years to finally lay the series to rest if indeed that is as long as the films will take.

my girlfriend found out about the series during the summer and read the whole series in about a week or two.. wouldn't stop talking about it. we were at the movies one day and we saw the previews for the movie (it was still summer then) and she almost ripped my arm off from the excitement
I hate reading.. I hate it.. yes. hate it. it's boring to me, I can't sit there for hours and just enjoy doing nothing.. that's just me. I understand though that other people like it. however, my girlfriend threw this book at my face (not literally) and made me read it.. I finished it (just the first lol) in about two weeks and I have to say that it was the best book I've read so far (out of like 5 in my entire lifetime
) I haven't gotten around to the next and I probably won't.. the first was enough
we went to see the movie the day it came out and I have to say that I thought it was pretty close to the book. most people I know agree with me about that. I thought the movie was pretty well made but yes it could be a little better.. especially the part where the guy runs really fast because that was just so unrealistic
but what I'm saying is that you have to understand that movies just aren't the same as books and it's impossible to make a movie exactly or even 95% the same as the book.. it's just the difference in entertainment.. if you made a movie exactly like the book with everything happening when and how it did in the book, the movie would probably be pretty boring.. books can take the imagination a much further distance than movies, which is why books are always better

Yeh I was much the same. I think the last thing I'd read before Twilight was Digital Fortress, and that was, ooh... 2 years ago. Before that I barely read anything. And now I am starting the final book in this series! I'm gonna miss it when it's gone.
I get what you mean though. The film is one persons' vision of how it would go. I just think that they missed a few of the decent bits.
Going to watch it again in the new year. With some different friends this time. But it's strange. I know it's not the best film ever, but I love watching it.

yep, same here.. except I'll go with my girlfriend again.. probably several times
I think the reason you like to watch it is because the storyline is good in both the book and the movie

Well I think the storyline in the books was fab. The music is definately a powerful force making me watch it again (Supermassive Black Hole and Full Moon are great songs indeed). I think it's just seeing the characters get brought to life as well. It really is just something a bit different. Storyline in the film wasn't quite what I had expected, but then it goes back to the book being brought alive.
I think I am saving my friend from having to go see it. Wouldn't be suprised if his girlfriend tried to drag him along to watch it... I know he would get bored. So I offered to give my assistance as I wanted to see it again. No, nothing going on between us... Just a good friend who enjoys Twilight more than her mister.
