Just had it again.

I'm going to try a complete OS reinstall and see if that does anything.

If not then I'm going to look into flashing the BIOS - or get someone to do it for me as it's possible that as I have a 2007 BIOS and a 2008 card, there's something which ain't quite right!

Cheers

Thinking about it - I have yet to have problems on my Vista partition. I don't have as many programs on it and don't do as much with it, but vista is generally more heavy anyway.

That could indicate a driver problem somewhere couldn't it?

I've downloaded the BIOS  for my motherboard however there is one application which just bring up the command prompt and tells you load of key combinations but pressing any one them closes the window.

There is also an instruction sheet but it says to do xys with the BIOS file - but the only file in there is a .101 off the top of my head - or something equally clueless to me!

Cheers

Hi guys,

Just an update on this situation.

It's still doing it.

I'm thinking of trying to flash/upgrade the BIOS as the last option. I've tried numerous drivers, a clean XP install and it's just not working. I don't think it's a temperature problem becuase it happens at completely random times - for example the other day it happened just after I'd turned the machine on!

Trouble is, the instructions you get in the MSI folder are just too confusing!

Can anyone give me a basic outline of what I need and what I have to do? I wish there was an application which you could just run and it would do it for you Sad

It's an MSI P6N SLI V2 with American Megatrends Inc BIOS V02.61.

Thanks!

Me again,

Updated the BIOS successfully (phew).

I'll let you know how the GFX card issue goes!

I was just about to push the button on a post...

OK so you got that figured out... and you are still alive, thats good

I looked over your symptoms again in reference to this card.. the 9800GTX has had some reports out there on the same symptoms ie; corrupted screen and infinite loop error, where the card itself was defective

If the BIOS update nets the same result, I would RMA the card

you have gone through all the basics which are power, drivers, cooling and verified the OS with a clean install

at this point you are most likely dealing with a defective card if the BIOS update nets the same result

Just another quick update on the situation. Using the 181.22 drivers it's still happening.

I've tried this fix here http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=88878 and it's still happening, although when I tried that fix I was using the 181.22 drivers instead of the 180's.

Loads of other people on the NVidia forums are experiencing the same issues with this card from all the different manufacturors. It's not good!

Running out of solutions Sad
