First off all im glad to find a board where we can discuss about top-performance and FSX at the same time! Have been reading since a year ago but never signed up.

The problem is that i have a p5k dlx, q6600 and 2gb crucial pc6400 400. In the past ive got the cpu to 3.0 (333x9) and ram to 1066 5-5-5-15 pretty stable.. Prime 8hrs, memtest 8hrs and not even a single reboot or bsod for about 10 months. It means all the games, apps and FSX and that was with a low-end aircooling.

Yesterday i bought a TRUE with an 110cfm fan to let the fun get more serious. Put the cpu on 3.6 (9x400), ajusted all the voltages until it get stable to boot and start prime. I didnt mess with the ram since it was fine with the soft clock (3.0). Now what i want to know, is if it was stable in the past, will it become unstable since i changed only the CPU frequency? Truly the p5k decreased the mem speed by the fault of my max cpu strap of 333, so it´s running at 1000.

On prime the time is exactly 10 minutes before an error and it´s same on both tests, smallFFTs or blend. The error is the same on thread3 for both too.  The temps are fine, max of 70 degress on core1 or 2.

vcore 1.456v cpuz and 1.475v on BIOS
dram 2.20v (default is 2.05 and max allowed by crucial is 2.20)
FSBv and NBv cant remember now but is one notch down of the max. The PLL remains stock.

wat you guess to start with? raising vcore or the mem can be a problem since a clock isnt stable on all situations?

sorry ive made a mistake talking about the cpu fsb strap, its on 266 and not 333. 333 only let me to choose between mem speed of 960 or 1280. For 1000 im using 266.

dram static read control, transaction booster and clock overcharging mode are all set on AUTO. All of the dram subtimings are on AUTO too.

The voltage damper is enabled and the voltages are as follow

PLL CPU: 1.50v
FSB: 1.40v
NB: 1.55v

its good to figure out that not only the core temps are good but the northbridge too. It never exceeded 43degrees on prime blend test.

FSX runs fine... the problem
is you or your system

your memory is going to hold you back

I am really tied up right now and do not have time to look at this but I will try to get back to it in a day or so

tnx nick, i think i got it in order

the good news are that i stablished the whole system. The main reason was that vcore wasnt enough.. Raised it to 1.50 on BIOS wich means 1.48v on overload and now everything is pretty descent. The memory is holding tight in its job, running at 1080 5-5-5-5-15 with 2.05v. Another improvement i did too was changing 9x400 to 8x450! everything is fine now

I decided then to tune those other voltages beside vcore. The weird thing was that i could set all of them to the lowest values on bios, meaning northbridge, cpu pll and fsb termination. Doesn´t it look strange? Stock values holding an overclock of 50% on the cpu and 70% on the FSB? And it´s pretty stable for at least 4hours on prime smallfft and blend tests. Even the dram are on their stock voltages, 0.15v less than the maximum of crucial warranty.

Well, the bad news then are that i havent seen much improvement in smoothness on the main target for this whole setup, FSX. Ive gained some frames off course but not as i expected, mainly on the heavy hubs i like to depp and arr. Maybe my 8800ultra is holding everything back? Ive done all the tips about tweaking vista, fsx, nvidia cntrl panel and defraggin.. saddly i think this is the max my system can reach. maybe one raptor or ssd could match less jerkness too.

Anyway i have until march 3rd to choose an i7 model and pairing components.. Hope that make me happy  Smiley

oh, one more question.. Should i try to enable and work on 'dram static read' or 'transaction booster'? I know they cant be running on the same time, so wich one delivers more power?

Sick! I give up for fsx, theres no way i can run it smooth on my pc, sadly. Its quite funny it only depends on the traffic, i can run with all sliders to the right, even autogen on 'extremely dense' and weather coverage at max, at about 30fps with 0% traffic on the airports. But if i take it to the most disgusting 5% of airliners, then the whole shit drops to 1 digit framerates on heavy hubs such as klax an kjfk. Crazy stuff.

Sorry but i wont touch this game until i have a nice ~ 5.0ghz quadcore with 8gb ddr3 and a kind of gtx350 when it comes out. ive done all that i can  Cry

I had almost the same setup as you and got excellent results. Raed the above thread - might help.
