I like how they said only around $500 million a piece.  I think they underestimated that one.  Grin

I liked that when they first rolled out the B-2 Jack Northrop was there, with tears in his eyes. Northrop's first flying wing was built in 1929 and was very advanced in its construction. The man certainly had vision. Smiley

Every time it returns from a succesfull mission the cost becomes more acceptable. If one sacrifices 2 or 3 B52 to do the same mission the B2 does then the B2 becomes the best BANG for your buck. However I am sure a few unfriendly are working on a defence against the B2.

Can you really put a price tag on security and freedom? Wink

My thoughts exactly.

I can't believe Congress had so many issues with allowing funding for such a successful bird.  I know back then they didnt know how terrific it would be, it's just funny to look back like this and see how many qualms they had with it, and look at it now, a HUGE part of our success in past conflicts.

If the B-2 programme wasn't cut and butchered apart, then the B-2 would of probably cost 500 million dollars a peice - which isn't that bad because including programme cost for the F-22 works out over 350 million dollars each... however, the F-22 was too, cut and butchered.  Procuring in numbers and the associated ramp up always lowers price, for example, early F-35s cost 150 million plus then year dollars, later F-35s drop to about 80 million, then year.

I just hope the 2018 bomber doesn't have the same problems.  Roll Eyes
