To take a screenshot ingame, press the V key.

It'll save to User / Pictures / Flight Simulator X Files.

If you want a screenshot when not flying, press Print Screen (the key it Prt Scr or something, I wouldn't know, I don't have it Tongue ).

Then open a picture editing program, like MS Paint, and press CTRL + V to paste it.

Then save the picture.

I have tried 2 flights with your settings and it's very jerky. It's worse when unlimited. I am going to go tinker with it some more. Oh, what about the advanced memory settings in the bios? Should they be manually set? They are all on automatic now.  Nick, I really appreciate you helping me out, I know you are a very busy man.

Nick, this is probably a dumb question, but how do you get a screenshot?
My gaming system isn't connected to the internet,  I use a old hp to get on the net, and I only have dialup. My gaming rig doesn't even have a dial up modem so I really can't download s&d.

Well

Lets assume its clean but I did want to see the startup list in SB

I am assuming you looked at the MEMORY tab and not the SPD tab for the CPUz information. If that is so then what you posted is correct and there is no reason to mess with the BIOS

You have the CPU clocked to 3.6 and I am assuming it is not overheating and reducing perf due to thermal limits imposed by the automatic control in the processor

1. How did you stress test this clock and for how long?

2. What was the full load temp under stress testing?

Also, if you are on Windows XP SP2 make sure you have the multicore update from Microsoft

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=C2AB5A48-8240-4934-BBD8...

XP SP3 does not need that patch

If this computer is not connected to the internet how did you UPDATE Windows XP and install things like Net Framework 2.0?

I stress tested with orthos for 8 hours and the temp got up to 67c I think(I did this about 6 months ago). I downloaded net framework at one of my friends house and saved it to a usb drive then installed on my computer. I could do that with spybot if you want but I won't be able to update it. I also installed the multicore update that was in your list the same way. Other than that, Windows has not been updated. I tried setting the cpu speed back to stock and it still had the same jerkiness.
Heres the Cpuz screen

OK, 67 assuming that is the true DIODE temp according to CoreTemp is OK but at the very high end

If you did not read the true DIODE temp of the processor and instead read the CASE temp which is usually 10-15c less than the DIODE then you may very well be overheating and forcing to proc into its tJunction where it throttles itself back due to temp

Assuming that is in order, the memory speed/timing appears correct. Although 800MHz is not what I would call a great memspeed you should not be seeing major perf issues and should be able to find a spot where it runs decent for you

At this point I can suggest the 1.74.74 beta driver for XP

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_174.74.html

ignore the card list.. the driver will install

And you will need to restart Nhancer after installing that driver to be sure it initializes with the new driver on the correct settings. It will ask when booted after the drivers have been installed to import new profiles and the FSX profile you made shuld be one of them, just allow it to import them all.

When you change video drivers use ADD AND REMOVE PROGRAMS.. once the driver is unistalled, reboot and install the new driver... reboot and wait a few minutes, then reboot again. ... then set up Nhancer

After uninstalling the old driver upon first reboot I sometimes run a driver cleaner program in safe mode to be sure all the old driver files and reg entries are wiped

I really do not know what to tell you past that. The board you are on is a nvidia budget board and the only thing worse than a top of the line Nvidia board is one of their budget products

Make sure you have the latest chipset drivers installed for this board and do that before replacing the video driver

Tried the 174.74 drivers and my computer kept freezing after flying for about 3-4 minutes. I was running everything at stock clocks. I have never had much luck with beta drivers, everyone I have ever used has done like this. Oh, and the Pci express slots are running in 8x mode since I have 2 cards in. Would this hinder performance any?

I seen what you wrote about me having a budget board, and I don't disagree with that, but i think there must be something else wrong to cause this jerking. It's not a consistent jerking, it's like smooth-jerk-jerk jerk-smooth. When I first got this computer(I bought it from Ibuypower) I had installed FSX and it didn't have the jerk in it then. But I have reinstalled windows since then, now it has the jerk. If I put the frame lock at 22 or 26, It isn't as noticeable. Put the frame lock on unlimited and it does it bad. Could the problem be I haven't updated windows since reinstalling? The frame rate will be at 30 then drop into the single digits when the stutter occurs. It's just very frustrating, I just want a smooth flight. Also I got UTX USA.

If you would have read the whole thread you would have seen I have already done everything on Nicks list including all the defrag passes.
Thanks for the suggestion though... Tongue

With UTX USA and the latest patch Car traffic is MASSIVELY INCREASED

And the method they use for adding cars to side streets removes the ability of the FSX slider to take the footprint off the system for cars, even if the slider is set to ZERO

The only way to remove the load and footprint on the system caused by the UTX car traffic is go enter the UTX USA and Canada config tool, expand ROAD SURFACES and DISABLE RTX MOVING TRAFFIC

Its known for causing strange stutters on systems that are borderline

If frames locked is better than unlimited, use it instead... there is nothing set in stone about that setting... its something you must trim in yourself

Ok Nick, tried the 180 beta drivers you suggested, fsx was performing better for the couple of minutes I got to play before it froze my computer up. Angry What am I doing wrong? Every beta driver I try makes my comp freeze up. Is there some special way to set them up or something? I really want to use these drivers but I can't figure out why they always freeze up. Help? Cry

Sorry to bump an old thread, I just wanted to say I finally have fsx running smooth!  Finally!! I wiped both my hard drives, reinstalled and updated everything, followed Nicks list again and removed one of my video cards.  I just wanted to say thank you Nick, if it wasn't for you fsx would be sitting on a shelf collecting dust at my house. I am running tbm at 90, Frame lock set to 26, scenery complexity at very dense and autogen  at dense. Once again, thank you Nick!

I have a few more questions...How do you know when the tbm is at the best setting? I have tried 70, 80 , and 90, I just want to know what to look for when tuning this setting.  Like I said above, it's running smooth for me now, just want to make sure I have FSX running the best it can on my hardware. I turned off all traffic besides boats and ships which are at 20%. Right now it's running good, but I do notice some textures snap into focus  close to the plane.  By the way, I just fly low n slow, I'm not into the big jets.
